So I went to therme Wien recently and this is my conclusive review. On check in you get a wristband and anything you buy goes on this wristband and you just pay for it at the end. The changing room is a big changing village and I would recommend getting a cubicle because it’s just nice and easy and the locker areas tends to be quite busy and crowded. The sauna area is located around back of the venue and you need to scan your wristband to get in, if you buy a ticket including the sauna you won’t be charged but if you didn’t then you’ll be charged at this point. Once you’re through the barriers straight on is the mixed sauna area and upstairs is the separate sex sauna areas. The mixed section is significantly larger and has a lot more facilities, and yes you have to be naked in the sauna areas. Most people wrap towels around them outside of the saunas but a significant number are fine being naked. Being from the UK I don’t really understand sauna etiquette, but after going I have learnt that in steam rooms you go in completely naked and hose down the seat before and after using it. While in the saunas you go in naked and sit on a towel. Upstairs in the male section it is a lot smaller but there are still a significant number of loungers, you have two saunas, two steam rooms, a tepidarium, plunge pool, outdoor jacuzzi and various showers. In this section again you are required to be naked and there are a lot of guys happy being naked on the loungers, and walking about etc, while some wrap towels around them outside of the saunas. I found it fine to navigate but a lot of the signs are just in German. When you see sauna in big bold letters you’ll know you’re in the right place. Overall my experience there was really great, I highly recommend it and got to meet some pretty cool (and hot) guys. I wish we had something similar in the UK.
