New/ Renovated Communal Showers

It seems like the U.K. has the right idea based on what I'm seeing in this thread. It's sad that the city I work in has only 1 gym that still has an open shower. Open showers used to be the norm, not the exception.

I think we are quite lucky in the UK that installing a new communal shower in a gym is not exactly that unusual here. It's not as common as it used to be of course, but it seems it's better than nothing.

We've had a few examples from the US, but they seem more like low budget refurbs rather than new communal showers.

This is my gym
When I’m at the gym with my best mate we always try to take the side at the left together

I’ve been in these showers before when I’ve been staying in London with work I went there for a swim before heading home. Very open very relaxed atmosphere.

Urban Kings Gym, an MMA gym/studio in Kings Cross, London, renovated their showers from 2016 to 2018 to remove one stall and replace it with an additional communal shower head.

2016 (before renovation) - note two communal heads, and four stalls

2018 (after renovation) - note three communal, and three stalls. In both 2016 and 2018 there is an additional communal head to the right of the sauna door (not pictured).

Their website has a 3D tour, the layout of the locker room (since 2018) is shown below

I'm happy to see the Aud has kept it's open shower after a $10 million renovation (see picture #9). This should be the norm, not the exception that it is nowadays.

Welcome home, Rangers

My gym was refurbished (well, totally replaced actually) a few years ago. The changing rooms (of which there are about 8) are all of a similar layout, normally 3 private shower cubicles and a large open shower area with about 10 shower heads.

There is no difference between men and women’s changi rooms, they’re purposefully identical so that they can swop a specific room from Gents to Ladies to ‘Visiting Team A’ by just changing the sign on the door.

So really good gender equality, which is great to see! But there are no urinals in any of the changing rooms (just 1 stall), so taking a quick piss is a bit of a pain!

The cubicles are slightly more popular than the open shower area, but I think that’s really because there’s a few hooks inside the cubicles where you can hang your towel!

When it was first opened the black floor was so shiny that when wet it was like a mirror , I went there with a friend from work who was telling me he was off on a tinder date that evening. From the reflection in the floor I could see that he was really looking forwards to it!

Wow... Some of the colour schemes used in the refurbs are really beautiful. I wish my own bathroom looked like that! :D
