British productions can definitely get a lot of emmys love if they've a great american distributor.... fleabag sweeped in 2019 despite being british.... and the fact that it's coming on either AMC or STARZ in america is a good sign...If they submit it for an Emmy, sure (BAFTAS are more likely cause it's a British production and those very rarely get an Emmy nomination; Peaky Blinders for example never got an Emmy nomination) but the character is still queer. There are articles being written about it and his past queer roles...
You could be right though, but that would be a super dumb move and will actually attract more unwanted attention, I think.
