Yes, the NaXi written form is not the same as the language Chinese adopted (subsequently evolved to its present form) some 2200 years ago.
The NaXi script is still very much a pictorial form. Present day Chinese have some words (not all) that originated from a picture and slowly evolved to its present stylised form.
