This is cassava, which I eat once a while.
I use the starch extracted from its tubers as a thickening agent for my sauces or to thicken cooking juices.

In Thailand, they grill it over low heat, then serve it with thickened, sweetened coconut milk - delicious!

I have been told this needs to be thoroughly cooked, if not there is a risk of poisoning - it could be cyanide, but I can't remember too well.
