It's not illegal to be gay. There are a lot of gay/trans social media influencers in russia. Do they get some hate from some straight people? Yes. Is it illegal to be yourself(be gay/bi/trans)? No
Promoting lgbtq on national television or promoting by praising it on social media is illegal tho.

And what's up with people thinking that he is a firefighter?
He is not full time firefighter, never will be and never was. Danya didn't even graduate. He dropped out!
