We head out the door and make our way over to the ice cream social. I still have lots of reservations, meanwhile Jake is going on and on about how this is our chance to make a good impression. Which gets me thinking yeah maybe I could see this as a chance to reinvent myself. In high school I was the nerdy shy quiet awkward kid, in fact if Alex wasn't my friend all those years I doubt I would have been even half as cool as I was. I started to see Jake as a way to help me be cool, how to be confident. I didn't need to resist but rather embrace. We arrived and it was rows and rows of white tables and chairs and a long table where what looked like professors handing out scoops of ice cream and we made our own sundaes, I thought well even if tonight is dud, at least I'll have three scoops of ice cream and all the toppings I could muster. We made our sundaes and as always Jake was scoping out the best table full of 'the ladies". He found us a spot and hurried over. Jake sat down and introduced us. We chatted but this time I tried to chime in more and I tried to feed off of Jake's energy and I could tell he almost seemed proud of me. We didn't stay too long as really most others didn't. I convinced Jake to head back so I could get myself all prepared for the next day and my first day of college.

I was a science major, biology to be exact and Jake was studying to be some sort of business man. His old man as he called him was some sort of VP of a bank in Oklahoma, where Jake was from. He seemed to go on and on about his dad and how much he was hoping to follow in his footsteps. As for me I was the first in my family to go to college and lets just say I didn't have any scientists in my family.

We get back to our room and Jake plops down on his bed. I sat at my desk preparing for all my classes. I had already walked around campus earlier to see where they all were and I timed out far each were from each other to provide the fastest route, etc. As I was doing this I look over and Jake is staring at this photo of a girl. He sees me looking and says, "she was my girlfriend, we broke up right at the end of the summer, she didn't want anything long distance". "That makes sense" I replied. "Dude, the last night we hung out, we made out in my truck for over an hour and I had the biggest boner! I wonder if chicks even notice stuff like that?" I said "Well Jake, I don't know I've never had a girlfriend and I'm not sure women care about boners?" Jake seemed to almost ponder before saying "Naw, I think chicks care!" "Maybe" I replied. "Dude when we get hot wives we're gonna be able to bang anytime we want, dude that's gonna be so awesome!" At this time I hadn't really thought much about it. I mean I knew what sex was, I took sex ed in PE/Health class, but for myself I wasn't really sure about it all. I finished up at my desk and I look over and see Jake sitting on the edge of his bed with one of his pillows on his lap. "Dude I just know she's gonna want to bounce up and down like this!" as he made his pillow move up and down. I just rolled my eyes. "thanks for the visual Jake" I replied feeling somewhat embarrassed about Jake talking about sex and also somehow slightly turned on. I headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth and get ready for bed, Jake followed and washed his face brushed his teeth and just like the night before took all his clothes off and slipped into bed as I walked back in. "sleeping naked again? I asked. "Yeah bro, you gotta try it, it's total freedom!" "I'm not sure Jake" I replied despite thinking it over in my head. Jake picked up on it and said "Brooooo.... I know you want to, I can tell!" I was thinking How does Jake get me to do these things? "fine, I'll try it, if it'll shut you up!" I take off my shirt, while Jake is imitating the "strip tease" music. I take off my socks then my shorts. "Now the boxers!" says Jake. He looked over with some sort of look of anticipation. I hadn't realized it yet, but Jake hadn't seem me naked. I sighed and slipped them off. "Nice bro, very nice!" I slip under the covers and thinking okay so I'm naked and Jake is naked... I look over and Jake is looking back with this goofy face. "What?" I asked, "Nothing, I just didn't think you'd actually do it, bro you'e got some real ball man!" Good night Jake" I said with a grimace. I realized we left the light on, Jake get up to turn it off and I swear it looked like he was somewhat chubbing. I pretended not to notice when we walked by. He turned off the light. "good night sweetheart" Jake said. "Good night Jake, get some rest"

Be patient. It takes time to dream up new real-life college experiences. Besides, maybe campus protests made the college less "super conservative" and took the fun out of it.
