I think he just reached the point most in the industry get at some point and got tired of the darker/BS side of the industry that is an ever-present undercurrent in it. I think it got to a point where his heart wasn't really still in it and he was just going through the motions because it made money, but wasn't fulfilling any more. It's definitely a point many people hit in whatever they are doing, not just porn, and decide they need to move to something new. I miss him camming, but I hope he found something that brings happiness. He's a good, bright dude and is capable of just about anything.

I suppose it would've made sense to keep going financially unless he has an alternative career with job security, which will be difficult now that he's done porn

He might very well have done that. I can't say whether he left right when he started feeling burn-out or if he stuck it out until he had his next step in motion, or even if it was burn-out to begin with. That was just the feel I got.

Agreed. I think he'd understood that it was as good as it was going to get, and that he couldn't do it forever. Hopefully he got out with his health intact and was able to move on to something else.
