Shawn Mendes

There is nothing wrong if someone thinks you are gay. It is 2024. Being gay is cool. Shawn should take it as a compliment. Sine he continues to fuck women what does it matter ?

The gays triggered need to ask themselves why they still view being seen as a homo as an insult.

Truly. A lot of us are giving very boot licking vibes when it comes to this. Most of us know this struggle and how painful the journey to accepting your own sexuality, let alone your friends and families acceptance, can be. And Shawn has the added element of being a famous celebrity to that as well. It's a shame to see so many wilfully discard their empathy for the sake of playing up to campy bitchy Gay Men stereotypes, largely for the benefit of homophobic straight women.

I don't. As I say in my post above, the lack of empathy and understanding for someone you believe to be Queer is what's upsetting and frustrating. Shawn's journey to queer acceptance, if that is a journey he's needed to go on, will have been made ten times harder by everyone yelling at him about it constantly. If you genuinely believe he is gay or some other form of queer, surely you can at least empathize with the situation he's in. Some of it his own making, yes, but to turn it around into "you guys have internalized Homophobia" when people point out how cruel and invasive this has all gotten just makes me sad. If this man is a member of our community, we should support him, rather than constantly hounding him about it.

If people said "I think he's gay" I think no one would have a problem. It's the constant mockery the problem, especially cause it's rooted in homophobia. A grown woman making a video basically calling him a slur because he wore a crop top is honestly quite sad.

It is 2024, it literally doesn’t matter if someone thinks Shawn is gay. He is not loosing brand deals or money. He can get women easily. There is no need for concern over the discourse around him being gay.

Shawn’s biggest issue is how is new music is flopping. Now that is a genuine concern.

Im sure Shawn appreciates your concern but he is fine. He has music to promote and is not worried about gay allegations. He has a team of doctors and therapists, plus millions. No need to worry.

It's always this deflection rather than people accepting they've become very mean for no other reason than the sake of being mean.

Being mean is in at the moment. Everyone's become the bullies they could never be in real life. And gay men are, as always, easy and acceptable punching bags. It just stings when it's members of your own community doing it. I know Shawn has his millions but that doesn't mean it's OK to treat him in the way I've been seeing. But all people want is to look impressive with a sassy comment and an ""ironic"" homophobic put down.

idk why y'all riled up. i saw that video yesterday on my fyp and was cackling.
and like i said earlier in the thread, no one believes this dude is straight. case in point, that girl is one of the many who doesn't buy it and the comments are all agreeing with her.
and at this point he became that character from will and grace, beverley leslie, who everyone and their mother knew was gay, always getting caught in compromising situations with men, but he kept up the façade pretending to be straight. that's shawn nowadays. he keeps pretending he's straight, and everyone else is like "girl bffr who are you fooling"

Its not that deep babes

Let it go. Move on. Shawn is literally busy promoting and is in good spirits and having fun being fruity on purpose.

Ppl love to live in victimhood. The world is against me, everyone is bullying. So much projections. And Shawn is literally too busy promoting new album. It seems this more about them than Shawn really.

The only comment Shawn has made about the speculation in the past has been that it has affected his mental health. He's written a new song where he says he no longer cares what people say anymore, and good for him, but I don't think that means it's OK to carry on using homophobic stereotypes, judgmental language and petty digs to get at him. What are you achieving by doing so?

Shawn doesn’t take it as an insult. He’s been supporting the LGBTQ+ community for years, even carrying the flag on stage and showing his support multiple times. He also clearly stated in a video that he’s not gay. So, it’s not about being offended. He’s just tired of people insisting since 2016, especially when he was only 18. Imagine having to constantly justify your orientation for years — anyone would get fed up. Supporting the community doesn’t mean having to explain yourself all the time.

The reactions here and across social media just say so much. It's not oversensitive or self-victimization to point out that it's pretty fucked up of people to carry on harassing someone over their sexuality when they've been clear that kind of discussion makes them uncomfortable.

Again, some of you are being mean just for the sake of being mean. At least own it.

Well no that lady in the video is a straight woman calling a man gay based off of stereotypes (inaccurate ones because Brad Pitt and David Beckham are to artsy straight guys what Ryan Reynolds is to bro-y straight guys, those are very straight male icons) and her and a bunch of other straight women in her comments are doing it mockingly and we’re calling that out as homophobic which is it. A bunch of straight women calling a man a twink and a bottom in a way that’s clearly meant to make fun of him is straight up homophobic. I feel like people won’t understand that fully until they do it to an actually closeted young celebrity and the harassment(cause that’s what it is) ends with something bad happening. And it’s not a bout Shawn in particular it’s about straight women being way to comfortable and going way too far in their interactions with gay men and queer men in general.
