Tsitsipas is getting really hard to support. Every time I think he’s turned a corner he says some dumb or unnecessarily bitchy shit. I wish he was more of an unabashed arrogant baby who embraced the “bad boy” trope like Kyrgios. Or was like a male version of Sharapova: dismissive ice queen. But he tries really hard to seem sauve, intellectual, worldly, personable and progressive. That just makes him come off even more phony and insecure than if he were aggressively douche-y.
I guess some of it is just a reflection of being a young, privileged person who thinks they’re way more clever than they are. While the seeminingly toxic family dynamics, the constant choking in big matches this year (and maybe, possibly potential hidden queerness) makes his situation seem “complicated”. But beyond the handsome smile and high muscle booty, it’s hard to say there’s anything I like about him at this point.
