The Japanese do not place that much value over dental aesthetics. In fact, as far as I know, certain imperfections are endearing traits.
Now, this does not go as far as purposedly misaligning teeth. They simply do not put the same emphasis (if at all) on keeping them straight and white as the Westerners do.
