I've been seeing so many posts lately across different threads of people requesting (or even demanding) English. I don't understand. Does LPSG have an official language? Maybe these users don't speak English, and there is no shame in that. I understand that English is the lingua franca in many (but not all) parts of the world, but that still doesn't mean that everyone speaks it...

Why not use a translator if you're curious? That's what I did because Portuguese isn't a language that I speak. Translating a few posts that catch my attention isn't really a huge inconvenience since the vast majority of this site is already in English as it is.

I might be alone in this opinion, but I still appreciate the diversity of languages here when I see it.

There's nothing in the rules about having to use English and you are right, most modern browsers are equipped with auto-translators. It took only a moment to understand it.

Amo minha lingua / idioma. Considero a Universalidade da língua inglesa, contudo, por mais que eu reconheço isso, acho justo redigir um texto em meu idioma, haja visto, os recursos de tradução que dispomos via internet.

Por que eu deveria escrever em um idioma para agradar o superego de alguns indivíduos que se entendem como o umbigo do universo?

neon1821 was certainly not making a demand when asking for English to be used in the forum, he asked it as a favor. I don't understand why you are getting so hot under the collar.

To use a common language makes it easier to share opinions and information. I don't mind if people want to write in Sanskrit if it is what they want, but they would not get my attention.

I'm not hot under the collar at all, nor was I accusing neon of demanding anything. What I said was that I've been seeing a lot posts lately of people (generally speaking, not referencing anyone in particular) requesting or demanding English.
I understand completely that a common language makes it easier to share content across a wider audience, but what happens to those who don't speak English? They shouldn't post?
That's the point I was trying to make. I think many people operate under the assumption that everyone speaks English and it simply isn't true.

Just bringing a different perspective to the table, I'm 0% upset about anything.

But also, this has nothing to do with Swell80, so I'm fine with leaving the topic. It's just food for thought.

For me the issue is not about sex and money, it is about doing it in the public. Before the internet, sex and money were done privately or in restricted arenas. I also don't understand the world of "gay for pay". To me, if you are a man and have sex with men, then at least you are gay. I don't accept that you can be straight and have sex with men.
