Kings of Hollywood - Gable, Heflin, Cooper and Stewart. I love this photo by Slim Aarons, taken at Romanoff's restaurant in Hollywood on New Year's Eve 1957. These guys were so confident of their position, and so relaxed with each other. The 1960s were fast approaching, and their Hollywood, old Hollywood, would die but, on that night, they were indeed kings.
Paul Newman and Frank Sinatra, 1956. Just as with Sinatra's friend, Montgomery Clift, Frank was awed by Newman's acting ability, saying he wished he could perform with so much ease and yet so much complexity at the same time.
Tennessee apparently wasn't sure about casting him in "Streetcar.." so he had him come to his place in The Pines for a few days to work with him. (he said Brando fixed everything that was broken in his house) Brando's was so beautiful and his sexuality so fluid I would not be surprised if some favors were exchanged. (I'm sure Williams drooled a lot that weekend who wouldn't??
