Transphobia questions
I am confused about transphobia in society and politics. Nearly every political party is accused of transphobia for different reasons and by different groups. (Other countries have more than two parties, so I am not speaking about the USA).
The first group sees gender stereotypes as transphobic and says you cannot assume based on the appearance and stereotypes if someody is a man or a woman.
The second group sees the first group as transphobic and says you have to take hormones to look a specific way and/or to make a surgery . Only then you are a man or a woman.
The third group see the genes as defining what a man or a women is. And that is seen as transphobic by the first two groups. People usually agree that this is transphobic.
The second group want to give children hormones to look a specific way, what the first group sees as transphobic because you traumatize children into believing in stereotypes . You should let the children decide if they are male or female and then try to convince them that they dont have to take hormones and that they dont have to change their look to be a man or woman.
You also could cause people who identify as male or female but dont look a specific way (e.g. androgyn) to feel inadequate, because of the stereotypes you are pushing. You cause them to want to change their look and take hormones, too. So you create problems that were not there before.
Because the third group is usually seen as transphobic i dont ask questions about them. But you can discuss that group in the thread, too. My main question is:
Do you see group one or two as more transphobic?
What are your opinions on this topic?
