Tyler and Greg really weren’t in contention to medal to begin with. Their program didn’t have a high degree of difficulty. Even if they would have averaged 8s on every single dive, they still would have finished in 4th place. GB and Mexico had dives of 3.8 and 3.9. Tyler and Greg’s highest was a 3.5.
And also, the dive that Greg missed, Tyler didn’t exactly nail either. Tyler’s score was only a 5.5.
For rounds 3-6, their highest scoring dive was a 73.4, which also was 4th place Italy’s lowest scoring dive. I’m just being realistic that Greg’s one mistake was not the reason USA didn’t medal. They’re just not on the same level as the other countries.

What? He’ll be at the next Olympics with a different partner. Did you not watch the event? It wasn’t Tyler who made the mistake and took them out of contention it was the other guy Greg. He’s got one more in him. Hell, Daley might do one last one in LA too.

I don't know anything about diving, but it seems like experience is more important than youth. Most of the divers that have medaled recently have been diving for 8-12 years or more. Obviously there's a point where you get too old, but Tyler isn't close to that. Maybe someone better will come along, but being younger isn't necessarily an advantage.

After reading your post and going back and looking at the scores, I agree. Then I thought about Jack Laugher and the other divers, and most have been doing this for far longer. So, if he stays in, he might do better next year, but as others have pointed out, there is always a chance someone younger and better comes along.

Just a personal opinion I think he is going to come out before the next Olympic cycle. It will likely be along the lines of being true to yourself or something like that.

I don't think formally "coming out" is really a thing with the current generation. That's a good thing. It doesn't need to be an announcement. People don't announce they are straight.

Absolutely 100% on point and I applaud them for it. Str8 people need to learn to stop assuming everyone is str8. LGBTQ+ people do not owe anyone a coming out speech, and that includes media personalities like Tyler. He’s gay; he doesn’t need to get on a platform and make a speech. When’s the last time a str8 diver made a video about how they like women?

The incessant clamoring from other gay men for someone to “come out” is exhausting and counterproductive.
