But technically you are correct . It is everyone's "right" to be racist if they choose to do so.
The problem is that people who are racist almost invariably cross over from just BEING racist, into ACTING on that racism by indulging in racially discriminatory acts which- in case you don't know- are illegal. It's very difficult to tell people that they have every right to be racist and then also tell them that they have to treat every single human being that they encounter in their personal lives or the business world with equality and respect , despite that racism- or be faced with a lawsuit or jail time.
Or maybe that's what you meant when you pondered whether this is still a "free country?" That those who act on their racism should be allowed to do so freely?
If more people had felt that being racist against Jews in Nazi Germany was a bad thing and not to be encouraged - because by your logic, Hitler had every RIGHT to be racist if he wished to be- then maybe they wouldn't have sat by and allowed that racism to become legal, murderous action resulting in the deaths of millions of Jews.
If more people in the Unites States felt that racism -which again, according to you, should be everyone's RIGHT- was a reprehensible and disgusting thing, the systematic, legal murder and rape of millions of native indians, african americans and other races in this country would not have been upheld and carried out wholesale for centuries.
When you tell people that it is their right to be racist, they INVARIABLY become facilitators and abettors of illegal and often inhuman racist acts- because they stand by and watch it happen, but take consolation in the fact that they are not actually the physical or legal perpetrators. They are merely exercising their RIGHT to be racist by being silently complicit.
So keep spreading you technical truth that it's everyone's RIGHT to be racist if they choose to be.
Just know that the America you seem to yearn for - where the actions taken by said racists goes unpunished- is gone with the wind and it's not coming back- despite however you and Mr Sant may feel.
