what is your opinion of OF itself?
Very low.
Not the service itself. It is just a medium like Twitter and whatnot. However, like Twitter, the community of users created trends of behavior, which became norms. For me, the norms of OF are quite distasteful.
I am all for honest sex work. Like any other transactionary exchange, pay for something and get something in return. Clean, simple, everyone knows what the returns are.
With OF, you pay a subscription, and the contents of what that entails are completely random. It isn't straightforward at all. You pay to enter the door, then whatever you find inside is wildly up to whoever is running that room.
I want to do a comparison to an escort service for a moment. An escort puts their ad out, with a list of what they are willing to do, and a price per hour. You get introductory photos, and sometimes a video so you can see they aren't photoshopped. Someone gets to browse them, what they are offering, and then makes a decision to pay to receive the services that are offered. Payment is made, they get what they want, and hopefully everyone is satisfied with the transaction.
That is
honest sex work. Everything is laid out on the table from the beginning, and you get what you pay for.
That is the difference between that, and OF. With OF, you pay and you never know quite what you'll get. The trend for a lot of it's patrons is to promise, tease, and generally under deliver. You pay for what
may happen that month, not what
will happen.
That is
dishonest sex work. The trend to shyster your customers, with bait and potential, and not being held accountable afterwards. Of course people can stop paying (and they do), but there are more suckers plugging quarters into that slot machine in the hopes of winning big than those who will just walk away.
