From what I’m hearing contract negotiations didn’t go well. It was a lot of back and forth for a couple of weeks. I heard Zach wanted the steady gig at Days. His original 28 week contract was up for renewal. Days Of Our Lives only renews contracts every 28 weeks (biannually) for all its stars except for Deidra Hall, hers is annually. Ever since Days moved over to Peacock they’ve been throwing around more money for the show. He rightfully so, wanted to get in on some of the new found wealth Days has been getting. He wanted more money and the powers that be wouldn’t budge so he was bumped to recurring status, so as to wrap up his storyline. Soon Sonny, Will and Arianna are headed back to LA to support Will in his screenwriting endeavors. From what I’m seeing on his IG in the past months he’s been keeping busy on set with other projects. I certainly hope I’m wrong and he has in fact stayed on Days.
That really wasn’t a smart move - if true. While the show is probably getting more funding, they’re still on thin ice. There’s no guarantee that a streaming soap will work in the end. This is new territory. Keeping costs low would probably get Peacock to consider keeping it going. Eileen Davidson is back. There’s no doubt that if they’re going to spend money it’s going to be one someone who’s a big draw like her, not on the guy who joined a year and a half ago. I think Zach Tinker is one of the best recasts the show has had since Greg Vaughan. However, you need to put the work and time in first. You can’t just go demanding an increase in money as a newbie. Christopher Sean is coming back (probably briefly) and Greg Rikaart seems to still be there, as well as Colton Little. So the show will still have gay characters whether or not Will and Sonny are still there.
Where did you hear Eileen is back? I'd love that, but she has been pretty adamant that she will only work short arcs since she pulled back her schedule. She pops into Y&R (and less frequently) DAYS as she wants to. I'd love to see her back as Kristen. Stacey is loved by the cast, but her take on Kristen is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
For Zach, if he is leaving, that will be sad. He's breathed new life into Sonny after Freddie had gone on auto pilot and was looking older and puffier. I hope, if Zach is leaving, he'll, at least, pop in and out as a lot of their actors/characters do now. Also, if the show ever does dare to add nudity, Zach would be one of my top hopes to show ass. He and Carson Boatman can go to a nudist resort together to hide out from whatever villain is after them that week.
Eileen was back on set last October. She was scheduled to appear on Beyond Salem and the main show but Beyond Salem was scrapped and will instead be incorporated into the main show, so all her work and everyone else’s will be on the main this year. This will air around the same time or right after the return of Bo and Hope. Miranda Wilson as Megan Hathaway too. She was brilliant last year! Funny how she shared scenes with Eileen who was playing Thomas Banks and not Kristen - Kristen being her character’s sister. Eileen may be playing Thomas Banks again. I haven’t received word on that one yet. Eileen is very game to be on Days now. Stacy is really dreadful. While Stacy may be liked by the cast, Eileen has an even stronger bond with not only the OGs but the writers and producers at Days.
About the situation with Eileen…
Peacock has been adamant about her being brought back the show periodically. They are linked with Bravo (NBCUniversal). They want the Real Housewives fans to tune in. Both Rinna and Eileen were brought back for Beyond Salem in 2021 for this reason. Eileen has returned a total of 4 times since 2021 (Beyond Salem 1 and 2, Days Christmas movie, main show in late 2021 for possession storyline). This year will be her fifth. Sony cancelled her contract with Y&R back in 2012 because they felt Days needed her more and Y&R wouldn’t let her leave. Stacy Haiduk was a last minute replacement in 2018. Eileen was due to come back that year but Y&R wouldn’t let her and she hadn’t had it put in her contract that she could do both shows (something she did with her 2014 contract). At the end of Haiduk’s 2018, they asked Eileen back again but she left both Y&R and daytime for a break. In 2020, she spoke openly that she was not thrilled by the Kristen recast but understood that it was necessary. The scripts were written and Y&R said that she couldn’t do both right as filming at Days was scheduled to start. They were in a bind. Eileen returned in 2017 to Days filming on Mondays when Y&R was dark. She figured she could do that again in 2018. Eileen was the first actress at Days to win Best Actress since the 1970s in 2014.
All in all, Y&R is a snooze fest.
