Sounds like he’s kryptonite to the NFL. No team is going to sign him up at this point. He’s smart to have seen that early on and began pivoting to the Rayze nonprofit he’s working on.
This is what I was afraid of. He'd come out and then find it hard to be placed on a team. All sports, but especially the NFL is still wrapped in the "boys club" culture. I may be blowing this out of proportion, but I think we'd really see just how unsupportive the league is if a high profile, MVP quarterback came out. I doubt we'd see them signed again after their contract is up.
Carl came out in Jun 2021 and was signed (again) to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Aug 2022.
It apparently wasn't that much of an issue.

Carl's career has been pretty standard for an above average (for standard NFL careers which are around three years) but not brilliant player, hanging it up at 30 isn't really shocking or a testament to homophobia (which obviously does exist but I don't think it is the reason he isn't being signed again this year). He was already on a downtrend when he came out performance wise and I honestly didn't even expect him to get picked up last season but he made it. He has a had pretty good career considered his stats and we should very happy and thrilled an out gay man had a successful career both pre and post coming out.
We know there are other gay men in the NFL, closeted and afraid to risking their career or their chance and Carl has at least shown there is some level of acceptance now and maybe more will come out in the future.

I agree. We should looking at this from a positive perspective. If he is done so to speak. Yeah it's unfortunate (in a sense) but he had a good run. And he's undoubtedly laid an amazing path for future gay and queer players to feel appreciated
The most important thing is that he came out and the sky didn't fall down and professional football pretty much yawned.
You're correct- he's 30, he's still in good health and is happy. It's a good time to find another career off the field.
