Carl Nassib—first Out Active Nfl Player

This is what I was afraid of. He'd come out and then find it hard to be placed on a team. All sports, but especially the NFL is still wrapped in the "boys club" culture. I may be blowing this out of proportion, but I think we'd really see just how unsupportive the league is if a high profile, MVP quarterback came out. I doubt we'd see them signed again after their contract is up.
As others have said, he came out two years ago. And played for two years without much incident. Your point would be valid if his career were shut down right away. But it wasn't.

I’m sure he would have wanted to stay longer if he could but he got out without any big injuries and has plenty of money. Good for him! Also paced the way for more football players to be out during their career, can’t wait for the next one! Hopefully they’re a Niner.

I hope the next one is joe burrow lol

He's retiring bc he can't find a roster spot. He was essentially blackballed by the league after coming out.
Just stop it.
Carl came out June 21, 2021.
Carl signed a one year deal with Tampa Bay on August 16, 2022.
He did that more than a full year after he came out.
If he was blackballed, that never would have happened.

Hmm... kinda, sorta, maybe! However, him being 'blackballed' could/would still happen in spite of the league wanting to appear pro "LGBTQ" But, inside those locker rooms, would definitely be a different story.

LOL, worst "blackballing" ever if that's the case, since he played for two years for two different teams after coming out.

The guy is 30 now, and while he's fantastic in every way that's relevant to me personally, he's not an A-list player. His NFL career was not going to last forever, gay or straight. Don't make it about the usual antigay stuff.

The NFL and his teams handled his coming out quite well, at least publicly. (People are going to talk behind your back about you no matter what you do, so who knows or cares about that.) I'm the last person to claim some kind of football knowledge, but I've heard the case made that he wouldn't have found a team the second year if he hadn't come out -- so, the opposite of what you're saying. I don't know what the truth is, but let's not say it was blackballing.

Carl’s stats were whatever. Good enough to find a spot and make money for a while but as he ages it went down more. Before he came out he had already been dropped by Tampa once. He is okay, but he was not stellar. His career met its natural end. Possibly prolonged due to publicity if you want to be cynical but I try not to be.

So, he’s leaving because of homophobia? Has he no recourse in 2023? Are these big burly football players that freaked out about lockerooms? Maybe sports venues need locker rooms just for the Gays, and while they’re doing that hopefully gyms will too.

He's leaving because he's not good enough anymore. Of course more talented guys from college will get in. He is not knowb to be the best player to begin with. Duh

Oh, I thought he was a quarterback, but now I see he wasn’t, if he wasn’t very good he could at least drop down to a different position, but I guess he was at the bottom already. But he went to Penn State so it’s interesting that that cache didn’t sustain him.

Wait, what? Almost none, or possibly none, of this makes sense.

I suddenly feel like a sports expert compared to this.

Let's hope he ups his thirst trap game now that he doesn't have any professional obligations
Can you imagine the OnlyFans income he and Søren would rake in??

Just dreaming. I don't actually want them to do that, and I know they never would. But just a fact that he'd make a ton of money if it somehow happened.

what lol, that's not how football works. Also, the cache? What are you referring to?
