Yours could be a possibility as well. Depending on where they live blood work might be required.
I don't think bloodwork is required almost anywhere anymore for a marriage license. (It certainly wasn't when I got gay-married in 2015.) And wasn't that just about procreation? I never really understood the point.
Well, you prompted me to look that up. Apparently it was to prevent spread of STDs. Anyway, no one does that anymore.

Interesting. Last I heard some states still required them, but I don't keep up with it, so I guess that's a good thing that they've been done away with.
That is really fascinating. Getting a blood test before marriage is sometimes mentioned in mid-century media (The Graduate comes to mind), but I never understood the point of it nor that it only went back as a concept to the 1930s.

It's a 3 month ban before you are eligible to donate, but that isn't to say that they were truthful about it. They could have also just done a blood test for HIV or had some sort of other blood work done for health reasons.
Whatever the reason for the band-aids, it is most probably a blood related thing.
I think it was one of those things that was done for so many decades that no one questioned the ridiculousness of the practice.
