Both, but "cock" sounds way raunchier, whereas "dick" sounds more casual. I never use the word "cock" in non-sexual contexts - it's too much.

E.g.
"She's practically begging for your cock."
"A stray volleyball hit him right in the dick."

Depends on the context and who I'm with. I'd probably only say penis around a doctor or 'influenetial' persons. Dick or Knob is generally what I'd say in conversation. I don't think I've ever said cock outside extremely horny situations.
"Knob" for penis -- now there's a word you don't hear much if ever in North America.

The alternate terms I’ve heard most often in the southern USA are “pecker” and “prick”

But to be honest, once I was out of your 20s, there isn’t as many joking references to dicks in my friend groups. Lol

I’ll bet there are all kinds of terms for a guy’s jimmy among the millennial generation..: and whatever the current early 20s generation is being called. That I don’t even know about

Do southerners (or anyone) use "prick" to talk about their own or someone else's penis? (e.g., "My prick is so hard.") It seems to me that it's morphed into an insult-only word with its penis-based origins obscured. But I don't live in the South.

“Prick” is mostly an insult word. “Don’t be such a prick”.

But it is also sometimes an insult about a guy’s dick. Like if some dude was screwing your ex, you might say “I don’t give a fuck if she rides his prick”…. It sort of implies his small endowed. That’s pretty specific tho.

mostly I’d say it’s just taken the place of “dick” for a slightly negative way to refer to penis or behavior.
