I have heard the theory "White men have cocks, black men have dicks." It's not meant in some stupid 'size difference' way, just a simple 'what do you call it?' way.

But I usually say 'dick' even though I'm white. I rarely say 'cock', even when referring to a rooster. For some reason I've never really liked the word.

Well, my wife’s preferred term is “thingy”. She sometimes says “cock” in the heat of the moment during sex, but otherwise I think it’s mostly “thingy” and “penis” for us.

Pretty much this, the only people I've really heard use it are white. Anyone I know that's is black or hangs around more black people in general use Dick.

Both interchangeably, they both sound appropriately raw and direct. If I was writing on here about a really good edging session or whatever I'd use both to avoid repetition and probably throw in a few alternatives, donger perhaps or maybe something more extreme/ sillier like Fuckshaft if I was describing the approach to orgasm. That avoids it just reading like Cock, cock, cock.

I hate the word penis and never fucking use it! It's such an apologetic small-cock word.

Interesting…

could you describe more why you feel “penis” is an apologetic small-cock word?

Dunno, it just is. Some random thoughts: cock, dick and dong are single syllable words. Penis is double syllable, maybe something to do with a progressively longer word describing something that is smaller. Italian has this but we don't really do this with English. Vowel sounds? Ponis sounds "Weightier" to me than Penis. Maybe it's cultural associations. Dick and cock are "good time words" with me, it means either bragging with mates, or talking (Usually positively) about sex, or having sex "Beuno Estente Pussycat! Feel my mighty cock!":p. Whilst Penis is more "OhmyGawd Dr, my penis has this horrific discharge, will you need to saw it off!"

As a non-native English speaker, I don't know the difference between the two and how these words sound to English speakers. Originally I thought that 'dick' was UK while 'cock' was US. I prefer 'dick' because 'cock' sounds like 'rooster' in my language.

Things are easier in French, we call it a 'bite' (pronounced 'beat'), more rarely 'queue' (like a tail). :D

If I’m sexting or dirty talking it’s cock. If I’m referring to it in normal life it’s dick.
