Thanks to all the thoughtful replies, I'll just clarify that the reason I brought up anti-black racism in the US vs. China is certainly not because it isn't a problem in China, but simply to counter the talking point that "leaving out black queer films is more unacceptable than others" since there is no historical reason in China that anti-Black racism is uniquely terrible. In fact the Chinese are engaging in, right now, cultural cleansing of its many minorities (the Uyghurs are just the most prominent) and if he are to use his platform to elevate diverse voices I'd say these non-Chinese Asian queer cinema in and outside of China are worth a look.
As I alluded to in my initial post, from my impression Fan's behaviors have always been, well, problematic, so I'm certainly not defending him. And I'd be entirely unsurprised if he turns out to have some sort of dislike of black queers, which I know many Asians do; in fact I know them as often the biggest white cock chaser, more so than the other races. I just think these types of allegations should be made with more seriousness, even tho (from what I've seen) Fan certainly didn't conduct himself well.
At the end of the day many of us in this community carry trauma and we're all a bit messy inside; honestly not much of what Fan does outside of posting thirst pics is worth defending, so I'll just go back to admiring his body...
As a gay Asian I find your comments disgusting and abhorrent. It's entirely disgusting that you would make a broad brush statement saying all Asians hate black people, and say it as thought you are an authority on the subject. Asians are not a monolith and you are no purveyor of culture to make such a sweeping, baseless comment. Your post, and frankly, the many over the top responses here to a pretty innocuous post that Edison made are part of the widespread gaslighting of Asians and false narrative of Asians being inherently racist. Asians are no more racist or biased than any other group. If you had replaced Asians with any other race in your post, your post would be unequivocally racist. But because it's about Asians, a group that has been shut out of conversations about race because of FALSE notions that we are a privileged / model minority, it gets a pass.
Is Edison a narcissist? Most likely. But it is a huge leap to accuse him of being racist. YOU CHOSE TO take something innocuous and project YOUR OWN racialized / US-centric world view onto it. That mere fact that you think the rest of world should see the world through your own lens is inherently ETHNOCENTRIC AND RACIST.
The comments here are part of a long pattern of racial gaslighting that Asians have ALWAYS been subjected to. We are victims of racism and yet we are made out to be the racists. We are shouted down when we try to speak up for ourselves (exactly like what is being done to Edison by some overdramatic queens).
