You can't go into a George R R Martin project and not invest in knowing all the many, many characters. In GoT they spent the time developing the characters, especially minor characters, they didn't do much of that in HotD. I guess with 20 years worth of storylines to cover in 10 episode, some things had to be cut. In the books Martin, doesn't go much into details regarding these characters either and I thought HotD would fill in the gaps. The rest of the story takes place over about 2-3 years so I think there will be time to develop.

Someone said the reason is the character on HOTD was under age, even though the actor is an adult.

Especially in a show like House of the Dragon, where there is no school setting and so many time jump. We don't even know the exact age of any lf these characters, except for Rhaenyra (and Allicent)

Cristan Cole was supposed to be an adult in the first five episodes. But he didn't age much compare to Daemon in the second half. He could be under 18 in the first five episodes based on look tho lol

After re-reading the books "Fire and Blood" and "The Princess and The Queen" it appears Daemon and Aemond will be killed off in season 2 or 3, depending how much of the fighting they want to stretch out. Aegon II will be incapacitated, but not before being depraved with young ladies. Daemon will be sleeping around with many mistresses and that may mean Rhaeynra will seek company with a Kingsguard as she did in the past, likely Erryk Cargyll (Elliott Tittensor). Queen Alicent will likely continue her strange relationship with Lord Larys Strong.

I don't think we'll see the battle between Aemond and Daemon in season 2. There are many stories to tell in season 2. George already said that it only takes 4 seasons with 10 episodes to tell this story of "House Of The Dragon". Most likely the battle between Aemond and Daemon will be in season 3 and it may be in episode 8 or 9.

I think you're probably right. Though Matt Smith looks bored with the part, and might be eager to go. If that's the case, they might bring the Dance to an early end and focus on the scramble to take power after Aegon II is assassinated, including, and the possible rumoured plot by the Maesters to kill all the dragons. BTS, HBO will be worried about the cost of HotD and the new Jon Snow spin off and may want costs cuts, which means HotD may need to cut back on episodes or special effects.
