How comfortable are men with being nude in communal showers and locker rooms in your country or culture?

I don't see the relevance in your being "from the UK," but it was also common for me to shower (naked, of course, as if that was not implied) with other guys from a gym class or various athletic teams in school. At no time did I get sexually aroused, as you say you did, and at no time did I observe other guys getting sexually aroused. It is fair for you to suggest some men should cover up if they are uncomfortable with being naked or having other men perving on them, but that suggestion misses the point repeated in this, and similar, threads. The point is that such men are vilified for their acts of modesty, and that vilification exposes a particular kink -- perhaps one you enjoy -- that some men have for seeing other men naked.
yeah where are you from then??

I don't think it's relevant to the topic because, contrary to many here, I do not believe there are meaningful cultural differences with regard to men taking showers in changing areas. However, I believe there are many posters here who fantasize about such differences or who claim such differences exist without any data to support their contention.

I'm in Canada. Open male showers seem to be pretty common here. I still get involved in sports so use open showers with strangers and training buddies almost every week. Everyone seems to be fine with it. I've seen guys get aroused and I have myself. I've not seen anything in open showers go further than guys getting hard though. Gay beaches are different. I've seen everything you could imagine on gay nude beaches.

In America I find it to be very awkward and taboo, since moving to Europe it's one of the most normalized things I have ever experienced.
In America, I've never known anyone -- not one person -- who considers it "awkward and taboo." On the contrary, it's very normal. What is not normal is the fascination some guys have with the concept of guys using the showers in a locker room.

Yes, some schools required students to swim naked to graduate, particularly in the Midwest and Northeast in the 1950s:

  • Lane Tech in Chicago: Required boys to swim naked until the school became co-ed in 1971

  • Duluth School District: Required boys to swim naked until the practice was discontinued in 1973-74

  • Iowa State University: Required naked swimming lessons in the basement of State Gym

  • American Public Health Association (APHA): Required male public school students to swim nude between 1926 and 1962

The practice declined in the 1960s due to social and technological changes. After Title IX was passed in 1972, most schools found it easiest to comply by allowing mixed-gender use of swimming pools.

Some reasons for the practice included:

Ah. A Swim CLASS. You never specified.
what did you think I was trying to say? During that time period all boys man had to be stark naked. ALL not some ALL. According to the YMCA it was required for ALL not some FEW all had to be naked. Woman and girls could wear swim trunks. Girl swim trunks were dirty. Boys had to be visually inspected in the nude and then they could go into the water naked. There was no restrictions for females to wear swim wear

This is very hard to believe. I went to an all-boys highschool. I swam with other teen boys but not during the school day and it was voluntary - just play. I do remember an obligatory nude medical exam for no specified reason at school. I doubt anyone ever had to swim nude to graduate from any university.
