How comfortable are men with being nude in communal showers and locker rooms in your country or culture?

Seems to be a big difference between athletes and just regular guys at the gym.

I'm in my 20s and used to play sports, and both my swim team and wrestling team had no issues showering or getting changed.

Some guys would keep their speedos on, but our wrestling team was way more relaxed about it.

Here in Panama is very difficult to find a communal shower, so I'll just speak from my experience at gyms. I have no issues being nude in the locker room and will often undress and change there, but many guys here prefer to take everything but their underwear and finish undressing in the shower. Most men also do the thing of putting on their underwear with the towel on (which I find so cumbersome and uncomfortable).

I also noticed it depended on the area/gym I went to: many years ago I used to go to a different gym in the financial district and guys there would undress with no issues. I have changed now to a different gym chain that is closer to my house and most guys there only undress up to their boxers. I have definitely gotten some looks when I get completely naked to take a shower or dress up (not sure if those are good or bad looks lol)
What you're saying here about nudity more common in gym with wealthy guys is very interesting cause a lot of post on the thread are saying the same thing. I observed the same in France and Germany, I remember some post about it in Canada and US too.

My hypothesis are :

- guys from wealthy families are more encouraged to do collective sport and have access to shower facilities since they are young
- historically and in their subconscious wealthy family are more comfortable with their bodies in general due to the fact that it's preserved from the diseases/scars poverty could bring

Tell that to any number of native tribes in Africa or Southeast Asia. They would be surprised their wealth affords them comfort with nudity.

Having gone to China/Japan, nudity isnt considered a big problem. I remember the first time going to a spa and was like WTF. no ones wearing swimmers. but eventually you realise no one gives a crap, everyone's there to soak, and steam.

In Australia, it depends on the crowd/location.

at my old high school, they had communal showers but, no one had guts to use it, so we just stunk up the school the entire day haha!

as a adult I've noticed if there are communal showers at a pool, 50/50 tend to use it, but where there arent communal showers, or a large /wide changeroom, say my works end of trip facilities (which is many columns and rows of narrow lockers, everyone's towel dancing.

I think the environment, layout, facility, dicates how people will act, that and it takes a few brave souls to go nude first, then people will be comfortable with doing it.

if you walk into a room and everyone's hiding, towel dancing etc, everyone tends to follow the 'norm' being set. if you go in and most people are changing, and letting things hang, hitting the shower, chatting being social, most people will as well.
i agree actually! sometimes you gotta be the one to start the change

Years back wife and I had signed up as host family for foreign freshmen college students. Every semester we get to pick from a list with pics. Most students were from conservative cultures and not used to being around hot women (wife), pool and spa etc which we had at home. They would stay for few weeks until finding roomies. My fav was to take them to my local gym with full open showers. Seeing their shyness and dropping my shorts in front of them after a swim or workout was a great turnon.

Did you introduce them to the pleasures of nude swimming in your pool?

Yes great catch. A couple days after moving in, we would invite him to join us in the jacuzzi. They never had a swimsuit so would offer them a set of new ones in our stock to try on. Saying things like we prefer to go without any but maybe too much too soon. After he got comfortable, couple of days later, I would tease my c+-cup wife to go topless saying he is not going to mind. In a few weeks, at least a couple of them caught on and asked to join us just naked. We never went beyond just the tease was our pleasure.

And finally, I think it's slowly catching on that locker room voyeurism via phones & recording devices - both intentional and unintentional - is a thing. Nobody should have to worry about some creep recording them as they do something as routine as a shower.
Something as routine as a shower should be nothing to be embarrassed about nor to be leered at by a camera. The sooner we go back to treating it like the normal thing it is, the better.

I was quite obviously being recorded at a Bally's locker room one time long enough ago that the guy was using the camera in his laptop sitting right on the bench. I just went about my business and left. Big deal. Crucify me for observing good hygiene.

I am the same way. I am there to workout and get clean. I am pretty sure my 50+ year old "work in progress" body isn't going to turn anyone on. Look all you want. I don't care anymore.

Did they show their bodies too eventually?
