Hello everyone,

We hope you’re doing well. We wanted to share an important update regarding the cam chat feature. After careful consideration and review of our compliance requirements, we’ve decided to discontinue the cam chat option as it currently exists. We know this may be disappointing news for some of you, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

At this time, it’s no longer viable for us to continue offering cam chat without an added age-verification process. As we explore the possibility of reintroducing this feature in a way that meets all necessary guidelines, we’d like your input: how many of you would be willing to go through an age verification process to have access to cam chat?

Please share your thoughts, concerns, or questions with us. Your feedback is incredibly valuable as we work to ensure the community remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone. Our team will be reviewing all responses and will follow up with any updates on the potential for an age-verified cam chat.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We appreciate your support as we work through these changes, and we look forward to hearing your feedback.

We are going to leave the old chat up for a brief period of time but are looking to a solution that creates a fun and safe environment for our users.

Age verification and what is required to be compliant in 2025 continues to change rapidly. Our process of investigating what we need to do for age verification uncovered the risks associated from a cam point of view. We've been made aware of risks we've been taking that we shouldn't have. This all came about this week after a meeting with an age verification company. Their recommendation was to cease cam operations asap.

Yesterday we notified our hosting company of our decision to terminate the hosting of our cam servers. We expected a 30 day notice period. This morning we were notified they were able to terminate the servers immediately (Pre March 1st) and repurpose them for other clients.

This left us no time to give notice. We actually woke up to the chat being disabled. We had no idea that would be the case.

i do appreciate this transparency, thank you.

i also appreciate the information about the nature of the options you're looking into.

We have a double whammy situation facing us.

1. The chat has not been good enough to have a lot of users using it.
2. The chat as it is run now is a huge liability.

The steps required to reduce liability would reduce the amount of users making it even less used. Less users = less reason to cam = less cammers even less users.

would all address and name info need to be visible?
No. The age verification process is much easier than that. It usually requires a cam to view your face, the ai does an age estimation and you are then approved to view the site.

Happy to do age verification, most of us cammers have already done the LPSG verification picture I believe, so it's not much different (except for people who don't like to show face I guess).
In any case, I know that the porn landscape is changing worldwide with stronger rules and regulations in the EU, US and elsewhere, so it was bound to happen on LPSG too.
Good luck @LPSG Support and I hope you can reach a satisfactory solution for all !!

I understand the need to verify, but what's in it for us users ? Just to continue with the current chat, or will there be an improved (functional with requested improvements) chat application at the end of this process ?

What would be the minimum age that would be accepted through verification ? 18, 21, something else ? I ask as this site is now very mature, with some of us members having been around for 20+ years. As such, there's no way we could be remotely close to the minimum age, so is there any dispensation in such circumstances or do we have to jump through hoops to prove there's no Dread Pirate Roberts-type situation going on ?

Minimum age is 18.

Honestly, right now chat is a small part of LPSG. We wish it were bigger but it isn't. There isn't any benefit we can promise or offer at this time. Which is why we are evaluating where we go from here (with chat).

I see you are from the UK. You are probably aware of the Age Verification laws coming into effect later this year. LPSG as a site will have to age verify UK members. We are working on a solution for members, like yourself, that will make that process automatic for you. Like you said your account age itself is proof of your age.

They tried to bring in age verification before and fell flat so it could be the case again.

Also if age verification is done and one of the chats reopens will it be that non age verified members won't be able to access chat

Damn the man!!!! Like, fight the power, eat the rich, hands off my smut!! man. Not random not doing nothing dudes.

Kudos and solidarity to Admin (Adman ;)) for heads updating the site, for being open as a window on a spring day, and fighting the good fight.

Fingers crossed until saner minds are behind the wheel. Behind the broader law passing wheel. Our pilot is heckin' dope.

He's also got great taste in Moderators.

To the chat loving folks: it honestly sucks, ya make friends and build a community of chat friends. Now cuz of less than noble intentions an ass ton of restrictions are being placed on folks and businesses. Not fair, doubtfully affect and seemingly right up to cause misery. *Throws rocks are assholes*

In a bunch of hours during the same day I read about this and the ungoing Skype dismissal...awful news, less and less fun in this world we live in...
Back to the topic, it depends on how the verification will take place, so I don't vote for now; I did the verification pic anyway so it would not be a big deal to do something similar again...

here's some useful info regarding age verification and the reasons for pushback:

from here: The Pornography Age Verification Law Debate: Protection vs. Privacy.

Privacy concerns

Digital rights groups have criticized web-based age verification systems as potential privacy disasters. Typically, these systems require users to upload photographs of government identification, allow access to public or private records, or rely on artificial intelligence to assess age from a selfie. These methods all raise serious concerns about how sensitive data is stored and shared by third-party companies involved in the verification process.
Even though laws like the one in Texas mandate that companies offering age verification services delete the collected information, the protections are often seen as inadequate. In an era where data breaches are increasingly common, there’s a valid fear that sensitive personal data could be exposed or misused, leading to identity theft or other forms of exploitation.

The idea of having a digital record of who has accessed certain types of content also raises concerns about potential government surveillance and the chilling effect it could have on free speech. Users may hesitate to access legal content due to fears about their privacy being compromised.

Additionally, there is concern about the potential for these systems to overreach, inadvertently capturing and storing more data than necessary or even tracking users’ online behavior beyond what is required for age verification.

This kind of data collection could lead to a broader erosion of privacy rights, as it normalizes invasive practices under the guise of protecting minors, which, while important, should not come at the cost of individual privacy and freedom.

Safety concerns

Another significant concern with age verification requirements is that they may inadvertently push users toward illegal or less safe websites. While the new laws have prompted mainstream platforms like Pornhub to implement strict age verification protocols, some users may simply seek out alternative sites that don’t enforce such measures.

As Pornhub noted after the Louisiana age restriction law was passed, “Consequently, traffic to Pornhub dropped by approximately 80% in Louisiana, but we know that people didn’t stop consuming porn overnight because of this new law. They just very easily moved to pirate, illegal, or other non-compliant sites that don’t ask visitors to verify their age.”

This shift is problematic because these unregulated sites often lack the safeguards that more reputable platforms have in place. For instance, in January 2024, Pornhub implemented a policy requiring consent forms for everyone appearing in videos uploaded to the site.

It says the measure has significantly reduced the presence of illegal content, such as child sexual abuse material and recordings of sexual assault. Pornhub argues that illegal and non-compliant sites are less likely to enforce such stringent policies, potentially exposing users to harmful content and increasing the risk of exploitation.

By driving traffic to these less secure platforms, age verification laws may inadvertently create a more dangerous online environment, especially for young and vulnerable users.

Efficacy concerns

Another key concern with age verification for online pornography is its overall effectiveness, particularly when it comes to preventing teens from accessing adult content. Despite the implementation of various verification methods, such as government IDs, public records, or facial recognition technology, these systems are not foolproof and often have significant loopholes.

For example, using government-issued IDs for age verification may seem robust, but teens can sometimes circumvent this by borrowing or stealing IDs from older siblings, friends, or even parents. Public records, such as school or financial data, are also not entirely secure, as they can be accessed or manipulated, especially by tech-savvy teens.

Additionally, facial recognition technology, while increasingly sophisticated, is not perfect and can be tricked or may fail to accurately assess the age of younger users, especially if they appear older than they are.

These loopholes highlight the reality that age verification systems, while well-intentioned, may not effectively keep teens from accessing pornography. Instead, determined teens can often find ways around these barriers, either through exploiting weaknesses in the system or by turning to illegal or unregulated sites that do not enforce such restrictions.

Without addressing the inherent flaws in current age verification methods, these laws may end up providing a false sense of security and ultimately failing to achieve their intended purpose, all while jeopardizing legal users’ privacy and safety.

I prefer the old chat room because people actually chat (well, sometimes.) The new chat room seems to be exclusively about the cams (not by design, it's just how it worked out.) I understand why this change may be a big disappointment to some, but it's OK by me.
