Josha Stradowski, Actor

This show is back on?
Friday September 1st (presumably this year 2023).

Haven’t seen any previews, so I’m wondering if Matt has been replaced, the actor playing him walked off the closed set, during shooting. (reportedly) Forcing them to entice him back and change The Ways and after scene‘s scripts.

Right. For unknown (and reportedly very personal) reasons, Barney Harris left the show between episodes 6 and 7. It left a bit of a mess with the script, but Donal Finn will replace him as Mat.

No wonder the show is delayed.

When you said Mat I thought you meant the other actor Marcus Rutherford who has the screen presence of a tomato so I wouldn't have minded if they recasted that character.
Nah, it was Mat in season 1 that left (Barney Harris).

There's reasons Marcus's character (Perrin) has a more wooden performance, since Perrin is a very internalized character and we unfortunately don't have 10 pages of internal dialogue for every scene he's in.

Yeah, Perrin's a tough character to adapt.

It'll be interesting to see what goes on in the show when we shift to Perrin's character arc storylines. His character is not really a made-for-TV type.
I hope they make him a bit more interesting than he was in the books because after book 4, he loses me. Side note, I hope they make Mat queer in the show

Nope. When it comes to same-sex inclined characters in the books, there are two gay men (both minor characters, neither of whom even meet each other but who are nonchalantly mentioned in narration as loving other men/having no interest in women) and a disproportionately larger number of women of various shades of LGBT. On the show, for example, Moiraine and Siuan are still lovers, but in the books that only lasted while they were students and in the present day they're amicable exes and both have male love interests.

And just to clarify, the two gay male characters I'm aware of never even meet. They're in separate parts of the world dealing with separate threats and the only reason we know either is gay is because other characters mention in narration that they have no interest in women and prefer the company of men during chapters of the final book.

Remember these books started at the beginning of the 90s and the last one didn't come out until the early 2010s. Times literally changed as they were being written.

If any character would be queer, it would be Mat, because he definitely likes to sleep around a bit (
before later events happen and he gets married
).

Plus, the last three books were written by Brandon Sanderson, while the first eleven books were written by Robert Jordan; Jordan outlined the last three books, after he was diagnosed with terminal heart disease; he also wrote pivotal scenes, and the entirety of concluding chapters. Jordan’s wife was the editor throughout the 14 book series.

I think what I like about the TV show is that they're including queer characters and doing it a lot better than Sanderson/Jordan did. I really hope we get like queer Forsaken (mostly Asmodean or Moridin)

If any of the Forsaken were likely to be, it would be Balthamel or Rhavin, but I think it's clear we aren't getting Balthamel in the show, and Rhavin is a big maybe.
