but you could tell that he’s gone through some shit growing up. Mostly, I’m assuming, at the hands of his father.
I don't think it was his father. I noticed that while he speaks often about him (and often in positive ways) in interviews he almost never speaks of his mother. But, and I'm gonna sound like a hypocrite, it really isn't our place to speculate.

Sure. That’s why I said I could be wrong, and I was assuming lol. I was just speaking from experience to when I went through something similar to Joshua lol.

Oh yeah I get that, didn't mean to be like "no you are wrong" or anything like that lol

Noooo, there’s no hard feelings lol. Just sharing my two sense lol. Another reason why I said “it’s just my two sense that nobody asked for” lol

Just sucks what he’s been through and the dude is only 20 lol

I feel like I was the only one who took issue with Olivia tossing the fact that she helped him get a therapist in his face. Like I thought that was tasteless.
Olivia's songs are mostly made up though so I don't believe the "fact" to be true. That being said, she could've release a statement to her fans to stop spreading hate to Joshua.
Wait what? Why would she do that? Did she mention it in one of her songs?
Its the lyrics in Good 4 u but most of her songs are fictional.

also it turns out josh had septic heart failure and had a 30 percent chance of survival. so sad he went through all of this

Oh wow!!! Now that's crazy. Jesus! All because they were trashing him for a supposed affair with Olivia (which was never confirmed)???

Yeah I figured it wasn't a real relationship... Olivia's silence is really sus.

Um, no. Its a disease caused by an infection apparently just from 1 mins of googling research so I highly doubt getting trashed is the cause, but idk Im not a medical expert.

I mean Olivia is a minor when the alleged rumours of them dating is circulating so I highly doubt that they are dating because its illegal.

Well to be honest I'm not sure how fictional it is because Josh talks about going to therapy for the first time when he was 19. The timing would make sense lol.

Joshua Bassett Wasn’t Joking

His interview with GQ
I liked it, it was different than other interviews and he seemed very honest. He also adresses his sexuality

Beautiful interview, I really like this guy, he's very polite, smart and genuine. It's very nice to see someone so young being so mature and down to earth. I like the fact that he's not obsessed with social media and that he's not an attention seeker like many others boys and girls nowadays. What this guy has been through after his coming out is really awful and disgraceful, and I agree with him on several points, especially when he talks about labels. Why do we have to be put in a box? Why do we have to be categorized as if we were objects? To please those obsessed with labels? To put those who feel threatened by queer people at ease? To put those who are not queer on a pedestal? Well, fuck them all. We are human beings, and we must be treated equally without any distinction. People need to be more respectful, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, there are no excuses about it.

wow yeah not surprised there has been an ongoing conversation about this guy. he's quite nice to look at, his songs are kinda fun and poppy, and he has a nice voice.

I am actually really impressed with him just from like a PR/comms strategy here, as well as by -- as others mentioned or hinted at -- the discipline he's shown in following that strategy to a T.

he engaged with the tête-à-tête song release stuff by passively allowing the media and Olivia's PR people to control that narrative and only occasionally and carefully sending out nuggets of truth like "the Lie Lie Lie song was written months before"

he supported her on social media and was visibly a "very nice guy" as a subtle contradiction to the image of him being a cheater/traitor etc. But he simultaneously leaned into the bad boy elements of his rep through his aesthetic in music videos etc.

Clever playing both sides of the field there.

and then he came out as LGBTQ+ without a specific label. I am cynical about this because it is awfully convenient and plenty of men who fuck up run crying "I'm gay" as a way to shift attention and focus from bad actions. BUT he was so genuine about it and it meshes so well with his like "sweet and anxious and nice guy" routine that it works really well.

all this to say: this follow up interview was EXACTLY what he needed. he nailed it 100%. He hit every right note to make the queers love him, and he honestly deserves it. And I think he did it in a way that lets us all continue to rock the fuck out to good4u.

he's like an idea genz gayby. twinky and cool and relatively unproblematic yet managing to retain an edge because a girl hates him. and the cherry on top is we can still love the girl who hates him because he knew he would lose that fight and so didn't even try to win. just moved on to the next thing and waited for us to catch up. nice nice nice.

This interview was...beautiful. I teared up at least as many times as he did as mentioned in the interview. And the septic shock and heart failure, my god was that horrifying. This interview is by far the most genuine and authentic from him so far imo.

Also kinda makes me think of that tidbit somewhere in this thread about how he was homeless living in his car at some points. And the anecdote about him beating himself not to cry, I'd imagine that was nowhere near capturing the full distress he experienced. I'm happy that he is now finding some sense of serenity.

Josh, if you are reading this, I'm proud of you. I'm also in NYC, hmu hahaha
