Playing devil's advocate, maybe she doesn't know they're doing this. I don’t think she herself ever said the songs were about him but yeah she should clear it up.
nah, she knows. she's talked about the reactions and was happy a lot of people loved it.

I know you playing devils advocate, but she most definitely knows what ppl are saying. She may not be going actively to his page and to his comments, but when her album dropped she was posting about it everywhere and ppl were trending it. And if I was a singer I would definitely be on social media looking at peoples reactions to it lol. I’m not a singer but I clicked on the hashtag and Joshua’s name, and the first posts were literally him getting dragged lol. Even when he posted himself on the hospital bed, ppl were still making jokes about it. Clearly he doesn’t hate her, I don’t even think he dislikes her, there’s no way she doesn’t know lol.

It’s another reason why I say Joshua has a lot of patience and he’s too kind lol. Because I would’ve said some shit on the internet, it probably would’ve made it worse but I wouldn’t care lol. If I had to guess, her team wants to keep it under wraps without her saying anything so they could just keep pushing out this heartbreak music. Just like with Taylor Swift lol. If you think about it, she’s following Taylor’s footsteps lol

I heard both Olivia and Joshua's songs and in my circle people are talking about it like he's talentless and she is a genius (??) lol I'm not even talking about kids but people already on his 30s I can't believe gays are so in need of something great that they take anything to fullfill these expectations

To me she had a great debut with Driver's License but her subsequent songs are just not as good

It's funny her songs seems to be written with a target audience in mind: girls in her 13, 14 years

But it's being successful between 25, 30 years old gay men
Is not that uncommon though
“…BOMT” by Britney Spears, “…and the Scene” albums from Selena Gomez, “Headstrong” by Ashley Tisdale were (still are!) successes with 30 and older gays

lol it's not uncommon for gays to be obsessed with songs that are targeted at teen girl audiences.
it's like a super common thing, probably because it's a "familiarity" where you can identify yourself in the genre, since those songs can be from a gender neutral perspective while referring to a guy.
but tbh to me olivia just comes off as trying to be the next taylor swift and i feel like the same people who stan olivia are also taylor stans. and you can't trust swifties, they're a messy fandom

Same here, I completely lost interest after hearing her subsequent songs. DL is very good, she sounds so vulnerable and innocent in that song, I was really impressed when it came out. But after having watched some of her interviews and the G4U music video, I changed my mind about her, I really don't like her attitude. I don't want to sound harsh, she's only 18, but the fact that she hasn't been able to show support for Joshua not even once after everything he's been through since DL came out, doesn't help at all.

tbh Olivia’s songs sound very generic to me. She’s good and everything but I see her as a Lorde and Billie Eilish wannabe. Yet I’ve seen and heard people talking about her like it’s the second coming of Jesus. 30 year old girls and queers are saying that they wish they had her during their high school years because then their lives would have been better (?). To me it just feels like they are getting nostalgic about their youth and getting into things that teens like is a way to try to feel young or something. Not hating on her, it’s just that I think she’s kinda overrated because of people that idolize her seem kinda desperate to relate to her songs.

I mean it's not that hard to wrap your head around.. drama aside, people are genuinely liking her songs and DO relate to them, just because you might not relate or like the songs doesn't mean it's overrated or generic, it's just not for you and I think it's good older people like the song, we have too many genz vs millenial vs boomer arguments.

Really? Can you elaborate about it? The only thing I can think of is she didn't really properly address the drama other than what I've said(tbh I'm not sure since I didn't watch everything), unless you mean just that? Otherwise, she comes across as a typical girl next-door imo. I'm probably biased though since I'm really happy a half south east asian person is being super successful in pop music and breaking records other than Bruno Mars which I'm not really a fan of.

I certainly don't blame her for all the drama generated by her song, I blame those stupid people who took it so seriously and started throwing shit on a poor 20 year old boy. But at the same time, she could have done something to defend him and she didn't, and that wasn't very nice of her. Anyway, I think she's an amazing singer and songwriter, but apart from DL, I'm not a fan of her other songs.

We only know what they choose to share with us, for all we know this could all be a publicity stunt and they could still be really good friends. There’s no way that whole album is about him, she probably through in a few Easter eggs to get people talking. I think she supposedly dated Ethan Wacker as well

If you think about it, she’s following Taylor’s footsteps lol
Taylor Swift probably wishes she had a queer ex to write songs about. LOL.

Probably because how many 25-30 year old gay men have the emotional maturity of a teenager
(he said, knowing it was ironic coming from him)

I agree with that, but I see that as something contextual, we aren't allowed to live the adolescence, so we start to have sexual / romantic experiences around 20, 25 years.. I tried to date a 24 years old guy (I'm slightly older) and I still feel like a 18 years old trying to date a pre-teen, at least our maturities seems to be equal to that

I mean...you never know about Style :eyes:

Also, not on the drama side but Liv is kinda one of those talents to me where they are just extremely talented with some surreal vocals, but ultimately their music don't really click, maybe a bit too generic pop perhaps? Ariana Grande comes to mind, homegirl got some sick vocals but for whatever reasons I never really get hooked onto her music
