I binged read all the books and it talks about depression, eating disorder and body dysmorphia. I wonder how Netflix will take that for future seasons.
It’s not really Netflix who will handle it, it’s the writers and directors, and since Alice works closely with them they’re going to handle it extremely well, I’m very confident in that.

and we’re going to get to see some incredible performances from kit, joe, and the legend Olivia Coleman

Alice did say not everything works the same on different media, so I see her toning down some of the darkest things. But I trust her completely!

Today I was at work and suddenly I went to Google and put Heartstopper in the search engine and I found out the news that it was renewed for two more seasons ... I literally collapsed hahaha I cried like a fool in the middle of the office I had to apologize and go to the bathroom, the joy consumed me ... I'm sure that the second season will be great

I have to say thank you to you guys and this thread as I have learnt new LGBTQI+ vocabulary and references... also I laughed so much at your (with a little bit of sass added) replies . Never thought I could find this kind of fun and warmth in a LPSG thread. Yesterday was my fifth time rewatching Heartstopper season 1. I never experienced this kind of love story back in high school and I love it so much

Honestly same, this is probably the only show ever where Ive wanted to rewatch it straight away. It's kind of heartbreaking to see how its resonated with so many of us in the way it has, because of collective traumas. But with how wholesome it is, its something that sorely has been needed in the current political climate all over the world. I'm absolutely confident that they'll handle the much more darker themes with the nuance it deserves. And its so nice that younger people get to have this to see on their tv screens and grow up with it

Is it dumb posting this on an LPSG forum? Most probably. But we're getting emotional at the gig right now

I actually rewatch it a lot, but through people's reactions on youtube. It's a lot of fun!
rewatching the series (five times now) honestly has been one of the most enjoyable things for me. I don’t get bored by it; I find myself quoting little moments like isaacs “I want to believe in romance” and Charlie’s “bisexual people exist” and basically everything Darcy does before Elle asks Darcy and Tara about being girlfriends

also all of nick’s little glances and smiles at Charlie.

I love the pace of it.

Thoughtful words hang in the delivery. Responses are considered. Kisses linger. Emotions stew. Texts are scrubbed three times before the send icon is pressed.

Even the lines and delivery of the bully, Harry, feel spot-on.

It is truly indulgent, and all the better for it.

beautifully recapped...

The interesting thing about this series is that the kids never seem to want to have sex - when I was a teenager it certainly wasn't like that - we were gagging for it. Is this an attempt to make the story more palatable for the hets?
It’s better that it’s not overtly sexual. Making it sexual only gives more cannon fodder to the homophobes who scream “you’re sexualizing our children”

i mean they’re still yelling it because their morons, but it’s better to prove them wrong with wholesome queer content

This type of shows don't go that route, doesn't matter if it's a queer show or not. They will tastefully imply it at most. Plus, I love that the queer youth of today are finally getting wholesome shows and not over sexualized, depressing and traumatic storylines.

I agree. I like that it is wholesome queer story. Gays are almost always portrayed as thirsty and repressed so its good to see a change.

I also like that its not even suggestive. Sometimes, on many shows or movies, you can tell the actors are aware of suggestive meanings of words like "hard, or "suck", or they added that in as comic effect for the viewer to go "haha, gay guy said the word "hard"!".

There's so much of that already, and its good to be shown as normal people this time.

I think Kit is a daring actor who will want to do more adult roles, like take the Daniel Radcliffe route and do full frontal on stage. But Kit, or the writers and filmmakers, are not gonna do even close to any of that on this show and ruin what sets it apart.

Ok, you've all convinced me: It's time to re-rewatch it (this should be #5 or 6 I think lol)...
wanna know what’s crazy? me being emotionally unable to finish the series because of its constant wholesomeness that makes me think i’m going too fast. 5th episode and struggling—send help and fast :weary_face:

Ah guys. Delighted to know I’m not the only one. It’s such a wholesome show and filled me with love but also I’ve struggled after watching it. Wish it was a show or even half as acceptable to be gay when I was in school. ❤️❤️ Currently watching it for the 5th time in the last week.
