Upcoming Korean BL series titled "Starstruck" (or "Star Struck" / lit. 스타스트럭). Starring Zuho from SF9 (idol & actor) and Kim In Seong. No definite release date or poster yet, but it's scheduled to be very soon this year. A teaser trailer was out today (and the official one was privated for whatever reason, so here's one from another source).

Based on a novel with the same name, it tells about Seo Han Joon (Kim In Seong), a guy who has been in love with his childhood friend, Joo Yoo Jae (Zuho), for the longest time. One day the former decides to confess his feelings.

What do you guys think of the sudden increasing number of Kpop idols trying BL roles in the past recent years? :kissing:

It's interesting that the BL industry becomes another route for kpop stars to go into if they ever decide to embark on an acting career, as it seems the mainstream K drama is a very challenging field with tons of competition, in BL, I think they can immediately generate a huge following factor in that they're kpop idols, so it's a win win situation for them.

Images of an upcoming BL series titled "All The Liquors" (from the same studio of "Individual Circumstances", will probably air after that one ends):

It tells a romance between a marketing employee of a liquor company, Han Ji Yu (played by Kim Joon Hyung, an actor who has played small supporting roles, including "Revenge of Others") and a chef, Park Ki Hoon (played by Woon Do Hyun, a model, this will be his first acting role). Here's a closer look at the actors, credits to Reddit users (those lips tho :kissing:):

I think this year the KBL will totally dominate, they have a really high production value, and really handsome actors, omg for real.
I do think that a lot of South Korean studios are beginning to acknowledge this type of market, hence the growth of popularity. Still very niche, but it's a good working field for rookies and returning actors, as some have found their fanbase from BL roles before getting other types of film/series projects.

The BL genre is still considered a B-class type of work in the industry though & South Korea is still a more conservative country. That's why a lot of BL series have a very short duration per episode, because the majority are in web-series format (not a mainstream tv show).

It will remain in B-class type if the plots and stories do not improve. I mean, they obviously target young audiences (though who does not?), so they prefer lighter and less matured stories. Most of the people watch it just for pure entertainment so most stories are forgettable. But I ain't complaining, I am entertained too. Though I wish that once in a while, A Frozen Flower level movie is created.

Yes. Well, after all the BL genre is mostly still related to the romance genre. If we compare BL series to other mainstream Korean romantic series, they all have similar clichés like silly plots, enemies to lovers tropes, fantasy/supernatural elements, etc. The only difference is that the couples depicted are heterosexual (which is more accessible to audience in general), the more popular ones tend to have A-list cast, longer time, and higher budget.

BL studios don't typically have the luxury of high budget, they'd cast unknown or B-class talents, have their work in a shorter format, etc. And then again, not everybody appreciates movies like "A Frozen Flower". I also wish to see BL works with a higher quality tbh (although perhaps something less tragic than "A Frozen Flower", because I've watched enough sad LGBTQ+ movies in the past :joy:).

"Wuju's Bakery" (also called "Space Bakery"/우주빵집/อูจูเบเกอรี่) is a Thai-Korean BL series produced by Hanyang Studio.

It will star Jeff Satur & Barcode Tinnasit (the Thai actors from "KinnPorsche", I'm sure you all know & I don't have to post their pictures :D) as a handsome baker & handsome alien.

The second couple have been announced and they are played by Korean actors, Dion & Jung In Kyu (or Q).

Here is Dion:

I think their production quality is really good for a BL production, it will be interesting to see if one of these days, the KBL genre will directly compete with the regular K drama, it happened in Thailand, but again, you're right, South Korea has a conservative culture, but probably the magic of BL will do the trick....hopefully.

As a main cast? I am not familiar with him, I got curious so I checked his profile and every roles he played but none of it was a BL.

Zuho

He is so handsome and if the series actually exists, I'd like to check it if it was a good series to watch.
