From what I understand, for streams of people with under 1,000 subscribers, once a viewer cap is reached, nobody else can view the stream. The stream replay will also be disabled. It's a new thing YouTube is starting soon.

this might be a weird idea but could it be a solution if instead of linking the video directly in the group, people just posted screen recordings of the video and then gave the actual link to people who were interested? it might slow down the deletion of channels and we'd still be able to see the interesting parts in the group
