I’ve seen people blame both here, but both have done far better in their respective roles in their previous scenes. Most of the blame ultimately falls on the director/studio. The director is there for a reason. If you’re shooting a scene and you see that it looks fake as hell or the performers are struggling to give good performances, you cut the cameras, figure out the problem, and fix it. The angles and lighting were as much of a problem as the performances and that's 100% on the director. You could barely see or appreciate what was happening even when the sex was real.
