Michael Cimino (actor)

I can't say I've done the research to know but the parameters of the casting lists dictates who they look at, if you make it clear from the jump that the role is looking for a gay person, there would be a lot more people who will audition. Seems pretty clear to me that they really didn't try all that hard to find a gay actor tbh.

I strongly agree with you. Cmon this show is called Love, Victor that was shot closely after the hype of Love, Simon. I'm sure they had a plethora of gay latino guys willing to play the part. Michael was good in the show, but he wasn't playing this groundbreaking role. He faked straight for majority of it and had very few scenes with Benji to show off their chemistry.

You can't argue about if gay actors even auditioned. We don't know that answer and we likely never will. So it's a borderline bad faith argument to harp on that. Hollywood needs to be better.
There is a california law (where I guess "love Victor" was shot) that forbids producers from asking actors about their sexual orientation

Interesting. I wonder if in the casting call they could ask for a gay male.

so strange, y'all complain that a gay man didnt get the roll of a gay character and every person that answered my question didnt have any information on the gay actors and their acting ability and in fact your comment just fully defended the point that Michael got the role. this is really a i want my cake and eat it too thing. The best actor should get the job. to paraphrase "Kindergarten Cop" -acting is lieing.- What everyone is saying is that no movie or tv show should ever be made unless the person the story is about plays the role. no Kryptonian, no superman, no biographies no horror movies nothing. i lnow my words will go on deaf ears and ignored or retorted with the same non argument backed by no facts but go off

Don't be lumping me in with everyone else. I ain't got a problem with Michael being cast as the gay guy. Would I like a gay actor to have gotten it, yes. Simply cause the more this goes on, and especially with all of the mainstream gay characters being straight acting gays, it looks like it's about straight comfort. You're twisting that as if that's a bad thing. My last post wasn't a defense or hatred of Michael getting the part, it's a shrug at how ridiculous this is. I was simply trying to move us away from it because this is a zero-sum debate. But instead you want to exaggerate to the point where you are arguing in bad faith.

Lastly, It's not saying that "no movie or tv show should ever be made unless the person the story is about plays the role." No. It's about a minority group that has been oppressed, sidelined and dehumanized getting the respect they are due. It's why people think trans parts should be played by trans people. Come on. To criticize gay people for wanting other gay people to play a gay part is asinine. There is nothing wrong with having a problem with that.

Now I'm done with this argument. I've said my piece. I know it will get us nowhere so I'm just going to leave it at this. To be so fucking butthurt over people wanting gay actors to play gay roles is fucking stupid. The hills some people will choose to die on never seem to surprise me anymore.

And this is why you don't ask. If you say you want a gay guy from the jump, you don't need to confirm that each person auditioning is gay lol.

Just like if you say you want a black person or latino person, you don't need to confirm their belonging to those groups, they just are.

thats why they cast the best person for the role, everyone gets upset that a gay person isnt picked for a role. if they cant ask or even say they want an out actor, if the best person isnt gay or hides their sexuality, why get so upset? i have see so many gay movies with gay actors and the acting was horrible. its a common point that gay movies are horrible and we still watch them. shows like this are about the money not the craft, so the best acting gets the role. i just wonder why so much anger and black listing when casting is strict, covered by laws and no public buisness

Ah yes I hear straight people have been struggling to be included in Hollywood and society. And what about the ridiculously small amount of straight roles? Terrible situation lmfao.
deflecting the narrative does solve any of the internal problems you feel your defending. no one is saying straight people are being favored to play gay roles. Great actors in general get the roles.

Everyone knows that if you don't like the casting of a show you do have the option to just not watch it right? It is called acting for a reason!! I don't get why the gay community gets angry with gay roles going to straight actors are you also saying that straight roles should not be played by gay actors?

Both guys have been pretty vague when discussing what they are interested in. Even posting things about bisexuality on stories. Maybe both are. Maybe not.

This argument about gay actors playing gay roles is a well-intentioned but ultimately misguided movement that likely culminated from the trans actors for trans roles movement.

Yes. More leading gay actors would be nice but no matter how many times you scream about it, it will never be the same as trans roles played by trans actors. It's damaging to have a cishet play a trans character simply because it reinforces stereotypes that trans people are men in a dress or women in baggy sweaters. That's not the same with gay characters where they encompass a variety of different mannerisms and culture. Trans people is about their body. Just like black and Latino and Asian are about their skin. You can't hide those. Not as easy as it is to hide who you are attracted to. So the real issue you're mad at is the lack of diversity in general in media.

There needs to be more gay characters and more gay writers. As another posted said. More gay writers will understand the experience of a gay person and not just as a token gay best friend. That is what we're really needing.

And I also think the media is to partly to blame for this too. Because they're pressuring companies and getting people hyped out casting gay actors in gay roles and putting on blast for those who cast straight actors.

I'm not even mentioning it because of the trans reason, I just think that gay characters are so few and far between that when they are made, they should be played by a gay person because there are gay actors. Straights have literally every role ever for them, they don't need to take roles from minorities too.

And if the sexuality question is prohibited then hire and pursue already out actors because again, especially today, a different person is coming out every day it feels like.

And the reverse isn't a thing because straights can afford to lose roles to gay people, the other way doesn't work.

so your point is that if a gay actors wants a role he should get it, even if said person is a horrible actor and that a great actor who is straight should not even be given a chance to audition? if that is what you want and we all agree will you never post about it again. i willing to give you the entitlement you clearly deserve. i hope you will agree to this because you are about two steps away from asking to speak to this pages manager

Lmfao way to shit on gay actors as being horrible. You really think if lets say 20 gay actors audition for something then they are ALL horrible, not likely and even if they are, then keep looking like they do for every other category ever. They don't just settle for other groups so why should they for us.

I think that that if the character is a member of the community, they should be played by a member of the community, plain and simple, sorry not sorry.

Straight guys playing gay roles are boring to me sorry and then they just get a bunch of guys and gals that speculate on their sexuality for the rest of their lives, which is literally what's happening here.

Also cool it with the tone Laganja, nobody came for you, stop feeling attacked.
