I went to oasis this afternoon.
was fairly quiet. Lots wearing bathers in the showers. There was an intriguing sight with a pretty Eastern European lad with an absolute whopper. I’m not really into huge ones, but they do fascinate me. Was a pleasant sight.

Sorry, I know this is off topic, but if anyone wants a free ticket to the 18:30 Wednesday (March 9) screening of The Great Freedom at Everyman Muswell Hill cinema, just message me. I can't go, and I hate to see the ticket go to waste, especially because it's a great movie (and it does have one communal shower scene).

John Reed is the upmarket brand of Germany's McFit chain. The German designers wouldn't have thought shower privacy was at all important because back in the Father Land most top end gyms have open showers and mixed sauna areas.
Lets hope they open some cheap McFits gyms here - in Germany, Austria, Italy and Spain all showers are open. Strangely each enormous McFit gym has only 1, max 2 hairdryers so I suspect the chains owner is bald

Another Better bodge, presumably designed by someone who had never used a shower room : 2 shower heads for 1 shower space @ Better Sobel Centre, Islington.
If asked a Better manager would surely claim the corner shower is for EDP's (especially dirty people) and that we are lucky to have such a great facility.

So how was it? There used to be showers for swimmers and a separate open shower room for the gym with a single sex sauna area attached. How has it changed?
I dodged a bullet…have been cubicles since 2019 so never went. Assume sauna still there but it’s the showers I’m more after

Never went...luckily i found out before going that the communal showers are now cubicles!
Does anyone else still grieve the loss of the YMCA Central changing rooms & open showers?
A great loss - as was the sauna that used to be in the basement.
YMCA Swimming
I remember being told about naked swimming in the pool - this was several decades a go before the present building and when it was men only. The guy explained he had done a life saving course and remembered vividly giving and getting more than a helping hand during the class.
The YMCA's rules about naked swimming in the US up to the early 70's are truly amazing considering what an up-tight society the US is today. Interesting stuff at Until Fairly Recently, The YMCA Actually Required Swimmers To Be Nude and many other sites.
