Shawn Mendes

Just to put things clear: some extent Gaydar exists and its pretty effective, especially (but not exclusively) when it happens in "real life" (people you can see, talk and/or observe without layers of filters).

The fact that many chronically online people put their wishful thinking and project their own fantasies in famous people thousands of kilometers away from them doesn't change its existence.

It's possible to call out toxic fantasies and still have functional gaydar.
I disagree. A lot of gays use the excuse of having a gay radar to project dated and sad stereotypes onto people. You can't tell someone's sexuality by watching someone you don't know. it is not a thing, I'm sorry. Maybe it was 60 years ago when we had to hide our identity, when toxic masculinity was at its peak, when anything considered feminine or different meant gay, but it's not now. And no, I'm not talking about celebs here I'm talking about real life people you meet. Lost count of friends who claimed someone wasn't straight because of their bsradar just to be wrong big time lol.

Gaydar is thought to be a survival mechanism for gay men to detect other gay men. It helps them find other partners in a small dating pool. Erroneously assuming a man is gay and pursuing him can have serious consequences in today’s homophobic society.

I definitely don’t think my impression of Shawn reflects wishdar. A lot of guys that y’all think or want to be gay are 100% straight. Shawn is definitely gay and is clearly experiencing internalized homophobia.

No, I think gaydar is a survival mechanism. It evolved as a way to help us find other partners in a very small dating pool and unsafe world.

I have had friends assume a guy was gay and he was certainly not. Likewise, i suspected guys were gay even though everyone believed they were straight and my suspicions turned out to be accurate.

you don’t know him to even come to this conclusion and it’s extremely weird for you to even insinuate this.

one thing I will not stand for is people calling shawn homophobic lol he is one of the few male artists who openly support us, at his concerts, during interviews, with his gay manager (when he came out), when one his best friends came out as a trans woman and more. Him asking to people to stop wrongly labelling him is not homophobic, especially considering people have been doing this for a way too long time when he was way too young. And if he is something else (bisexuality exists) he should be able to come out at his own terms and stop being pushed and by horny dudes who have no chance with him anyways.
