My career in engineering makes me agree with you for accuracy but... IRL I find diameter while not a super accurate method gives a more direct comparison to size. I find this with dicks as well. When someone says 6.25" circ, my brain has to do the quick conversion to about 2". If someone says their cock is 2" dia... I quickly can judge the size. But that's just my weirdness.
Sadly mine are so small, high, and tight that they are measured by how much pulling force is required to get them from inside my stomach!
