There are benefits to dandelions.
Without knowing what chemicals have been used on the lawn, I wouldn't suggested any consumption. Nevertheless, the healthy of the lawn (and the ecosystem) is improved.

The Kirkland warbler is a neotropic bird.
Nearly the entire breeding population spends the summer in Michigan. For the winter, they migrate to a particular island in the Bahamas. Because of its habitat needs and restricted range, conservation has been tricky. Nevertheless the population is growing.

Last year, the ivory-billed woodpecker narrowly escaped being classified as extinct (at least temporarily).
The evidence of its existence is meager.
In fact, some might say the evidence for bigfoot is greater.
I hope that it is still surviving in some remote corner of the world.

The demands upon the Colorado River keeps increasing. Coupled with droughts (and climate change), the concern is heightened.
The fresh water is needed by millions.
(However irrigating crops in the desert may not be the wisest decision.)

There's a wide variety of invasive species. Among these are hippopotamuses in Colombia.

(Hippos can be very dangerous.)
 
When picturing endangered species, perhaps an African rhino, particularly a white, comes to mind.
Asian species have declined too.
