I can't stand how people now act like if something is on a TV show the creative team is endorsing it and painted it in a positive light. Anyone with half a fucking brain knew that Max wasn't gonna have a happily ever after with his fucking third period English teacher.
I mean hey look at PLL. The thing is is that it’s just a hot mess. Making the gay teacher look predatory and the queer student provocative. Like there’s so much more that could’ve done.

i mean for starters max is messed up in general. dude is high like 80% if the time and just live for drama, he loves wreaking havoc.
but also, the show pretty much just showed the teacher in the way those type of relationships are rarely portrayed. usually it's some forbidden love crap and they try to justify the whole thing with being in love and etc etc. but the show made it pretty clear the teacher likes fucking students and actively goes after seniors.
like, yes it's pulling the whole gay predator stereotype. but it's not for the sake of being harmful. imo the show was basically telling how a teacher can so easily manipulate a student in order to have sex with said student

Lol Gossip Girl might have the most successful reboot in television history. It’s only episode 5 and the online presence is insane! You’d think it has been out for a few seasons.
I agree the teacher was a creep to begin with. I kind of hope Max falls in love with someone less attractive. I always wanted to see a storyline like that. I mean based off how he treats his dad who is feminine and he took their side against his masc dad I think Max just loves who he loves. I think he’d be the best character to fall in love with someone outside of the group who isn’t as rich or attractive like Serena did with Dan.

In addition to manipulating, he took advantage emotionally, since Max was vulnerable after what happened to his parents, so it is even easier to manipulate when someone is emotionally vulnerable.

Well it’s only season one so who knows. The gay stuff does get more viewers so they might change their mind.

the gay stuff might end up going to aki tho, since clearly they're depicting him as someone that's trying to figure his sexuality out

You guys are acting so dense, of course the actor is going to be older thats not the moral dilemma, the moral dilemma is showing a 17 year old high-schooler get into a relationship with their teacher. Not only is it wrong on a moral level, but it also perpetuates the stigma that gay kids are preyed on by older gay people and this has a direct link to their gayness. The fact that someone in here wanted to see their relationship blossom because they have “chemistry” is weird IMO. I really hope they do not go that route, it’s been a weird trope that ended in the early-mid 2010s, and there’s a reason why it has not been brought back. Teenagers like me use to watch those dynamics as little kids and ship these adults x teenagers thinking it was cute - psychology literally tells us we internalise the media we consume on a subconscious level - imagine how easy it would be to pray on kids who may have an innocent crush on you if they’re already open and think it’s normal to have romantic and sexual relationships with their teacher?
What mainstream shows feature male teachers in relations with a female student and it isn't presented negatively??
Riverdale did it in season 1 lol. Also, no one cares about moral dilemmas we're all here for the gay shit. Less arguing, more thirsting

Agree. It’s not as much the “relationship “ but showing him suck his cock and swallow WHILE IN THE SCHOOL is a little too much

'Gossip Girl' Star Thomas Doherty on Pansexual Character in HBO Reboot - Variety

I can definitely see him being pansexual. Kind of going to the Josh Hutcherson route. Like he likes girls as of now. But a guy could eventually catches eye. And I’m pretty sure that if he were to date a guy I think it would be his costar Eli. The chemistry is so cute and they seem to have such a good time together.

And yet here you are…so guess it worked huh?
This just in - Queerbaiting works! It’s almost why the entertainment industry has been using it for decades with their straight cisgendered actors/actresses.

However, authenticity is what others (namely Gen Z aka the desired GG audience) are desiring more and more.
