"vintage or when men had pubes"

One positive thing was that Norman Tousley lived long enough to see a time when Nude Modeling for Men was no longer a Crime or a real reason to terminate a Man's employment.

I for one am glad that Norm dared to get naked and show off his incredible body. Such a pity that the society he was born into was so repressed that he lost his livelihood because of it.

About 3 Months after Norman Tousley was fired the California Civil Service Commission decided a short Suspension would suffice. Norman was reinstated to his job with the Alameda Fire Department with most of his back pay awarded to him (less the short Suspension). The Civil Service Commission ruled that there was no evidence presented that Norman intended to pose for obscene photos but a short Suspension was warranted because he did not exercise good judgement. I am fairly certain Norman never posed Nude after that time. In the end Norm kept his job with a short suspension only.

RON RECTOR posed Nude in a Side Camera View for Chuck Renslow of KRIS of Chicago in 1964. RON had a Hairy Bush and a decent sized Penis. RON RECTOR played FootBall for Northwestern University and went on to play PRO for the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and the Washington Redskins. One of the few, maybe the only Pro FootBall Player to pose Nude for a Gay Studio in the 1960s he died in 1968 from a motorcycle accident.

Such a pity he died so young. From what I read he was a good player.

STEVE ANTHONY was indeed a handsome model who posed for Western Photography Guild. However, I doubt these photos were taken in 1958. Although WPG was active during this time, its photography was, like most studios, strictly legal (models wore "posing pouches"). It didn't turn to full nudity until the mid-sixties when the censorship laws were relaxed.

WPG was owned by the wonderful DON WHITMAN, who like his contemporary Bob Mizer at AMG, started up right after the end of World War II. During the mid-fifties, Whitman's studio, equipment, and most of its photos were destroyed by flooding in downtown Denver, and he subsequently relocated further south, just off Broadway or Lincoln. His studio was fairly small, so he shot a lot outdoors in the beautiful Rocky Mountains and in his models' homes. Indeed, there's a nice set of STEVE ANTHONY taken in his apartment. Whitman was very proud of his work and took great pains in the details of composition and lighting. You won't find a bad or sloppy WPG photograph.
