What was the most popular underwear style for men in your younger years? What about in your country?

In middle and high school for me in the US, the most popular underwear guys wore were boxers. The second most popular was boxer briefs, but you weren't considered a "real guy" if you didn't wear boxers. It sounds stupid now but when you're a teenager, it was a big deal. I used to wear boxer briefs, but since all the boys were wearing boxers, I switched over. Now I wear trunks and boxer briefs again.

@MXnewboy , glad to hear you didn't give into the boxers peer-pressure too much! And that you eventually made a switch to something you felt more comfortable and (we assume) sexy in!

I grew up in the 1980’s and early 1990’s and it was all white Hanes or FTL briefs with a few fashion briefs in the mix. A few BVD’s. I did see a few guys wear bikini briefs in high school (Brittania, Honors, and Generation Two). I didn’t see anyone wear boxer briefs until my freshman year in college.
Interesting, @PeterJackson1 , never heard of (Brittania, Honors, and Generation Two)... Were those underwear brands or styles of bikini underwear by one of the bigger companies?
Assuming you're talking about in the USA. Cheers!

And what about briefs? Anyone wore those?

To my knowledge, nobody wore briefs because they were seen as something little kids wore. When you're a teenager trying to fit in and briefs have that kind of connotation, nobody is going to want to wear them.

In mid to late 1990s in my rural Western US school community, the boxers popularity grew as we hit puberty and the loose/ sagging pants trend started then more guys who I knew wore briefs in younger years were wearing boxers that were exposed due to their sagging pants or waistband sightings as we hit junior high years. Then it was a good mix 60/40 or so with briefs and boxers in locker room sightings when we changed for gym class. Boxer briefs popularity increased significantly in late 90s and 2000s when i was in college in same region/ state.

I would like to know what was the most popular underwear style when you were younger? or, what is the most popular underwear style in your country/city now?

I grew up in Puerto Rico, and in the 90s most guys there used to wear either white briefs (tighty whities) or bikini briefs or slips (similar to the one in the photos below) Boxers were not common and I don't remember guys wearing boxer briefs. Then, I went to college in the United States (Northeast in the late 90s/early 2000s) and boxers were everywhere, some guys used to wear tighty whities and a few long-legged boxer briefs.

Sadly, you got to the US (and a part of the US where boxers were more common, I think) when the 'Boxer rebellion' hit. I was in college in the last 70's /early 80's and it was still pretty much white briefs except for the prep school kids, who'd been in dorms throughout high school in New England, and had adopted boxers as their norm for hanging around the dorm.

I was in college on the east coast in the mid-late 70s and most guys still wore briefs, mostly white briefs but some colors, EXCEPT notably, the guys from the west coast. The boxer shorts rebellion apparently already had started there because they all seemed to be wearing boxer shorts.

Here on the east coast that did indeed seem to start earlier with prep school guys. I have a group of cousins about a half generation younger than I am who went to prep schools and were wearing boxer shorts in the early - mid 80s.

Thanks. A question, was it common for guys to hang out in underwear in the dorms back then? My experience was that just a few guys did but just inside the bedrooms. Because the dorms were coed, most guys hung out in sweat pants for shorts.

And I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say thI

In my experience, yes. Lots of guys hung out in their boxers. I was always trying to sneak a peek, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one. After my sophomore year I had a single and it just wasn't the same camaraderie of guys-in-boxers-in-dorms. I used to wonder how ridiculous it'd be if I decided I wanted to hang out with the guys but didn't have any boxers. Can you imagine American college dudes accepting one of their own who wore tighty whities on the dorm floor, into the other guys' rooms, etc? Totally unacceptable, tho for no good reason.

Coming of age in the U.S. of the 80's, most guys, including myself, wore tightie whitey briefs, although my best friend at the time seemed to prefer boxers. While I may still have a pair kicking about somewhere, but most were turned into rags decades ago as I'm now pretty much a boxer-briefs or colored briefs guy. Maybe because I associate plain white briefs with my youth, I just feel they look too juvenile on a grown man after a certain age.

I can't speak for what most men might wear today in my country, although most polls I've seen seem to suggest boxer-briefs; though given the number of dudes who sag their pants in the neighborhood where I go to the gym and from what I've seen in the locker room, regular boxers still seem to have a steady following.

As a teen in Ireland in the late 90’s and early 00’s, it was all loose boxers mainly, especially Primark (or Penney’s as they’re known here). Briefs were and still are a rare sight.

Boxer-briefs and trunks became more popular from the mid-00’s on and probably still are the go-to undies for Irish men. Big brands like Calvin Klein very popular these days.

Interesting! I never made it to Ireland during that time period (very sad about it), but I did manage to have a couple BFs from both Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Not sure if you identify as straight/gay/bi or something else, but maybe there was a bit of divide with the straight guys going for loose boxers and other gay/bi guys going for briefs? Could also be an age divide thing.

Identify as bi myself, vast majority of Irish guys I would have fucked through the years would have worn boxer-briefs, any others would have been designer briefs (FTL, Jockey briefs aren’t a thing here, almost always hip brief style)
