Why are so many British guys Circumcised?

Which rather confirms a theory that has been put forward that routine, non-religious circumcision was originally an attempt to prevent masturbation and the putative other health benefits were invented afterwards to justify it.

It is probably worth adding that, while on any particular occasion I would never turn down sex and choose to masturbate instead, if I faced a choice that, for the rest of my life, I could only have sex or only masturbate, I would choose masturbation because of being in control. That applies both to being in control during any particular session but, more importantly, to being able to enjoy an orgasm whenever I want without being dependent, and therefore under the control of, someone else.

Making it more difficult to masturbate wouldn’t be something I would see as totally negative, and part of me would be quite happy that it was made more of a special thing to do, taking more time and effort. From my living situation with my wife I know that I would have very few chances on an average week to masturbate if it took more time, so would most likely rarely do it if/when I get cut

I'm curious about the British guys who are circumcised and in the minority in their country - or vice versa - the American guys who are uncircumcised (in the minority in their country). Are some British guys like me fascinated by cut guys when they see one and what it must be like just like I as an American am fascinated by an uncut American guy when I see one and wonder what it must be like to have a foreskin?

I think about (an am very turned on by) an episode of "Naked Attraction" (original British version) in which the guy choosing his date was cut and appeared naked in front of the final two contestants (and to a segment of the entire public on TV). Are Brits surprised at moments like this - when they find out a guy is cut (as I might be surprised to learn that an American guy is uncut)?

I always wonder if any of the choosers specify 'circumcised' as one of their criteria - or, indeed, uncircumcised. A circumcised guy choosing from six circumcised guys would be good!

A couple friends I grew up with were circumcised like me, used to think it was common. Since I started going to gyms, football etc I noticed it was far less common. Back then everyone showered together so you saw a lot of people.

Been to nude beaches and clubs also, counted 30 people one day, only 3 were circumcised so around 10% maybe?

This bloke has been posting ridiculous posts like this for years. In spite of his Jewish surname, he says he made up his own mind to be cut. He posts his misinformation for his own poor psychological needs, but the fact is that the circumcision rate among non-Muslim and non-Jewish men in the UK is going down, not up, for the simple reason that the National Health won't do it without medical or religious necessity, and sees it as completely unnecessary. The day when upperclass UK men were regularly circumcised is long past, and had mainly to do with service in the Empire in tropical climes. Part of my heritage is an old county British family. None of my generation was circumcised, and we are all thankful.

You can’t assume to know anyone’s religion by their name. A friend of mine has the surname Cohen b/c his paternal grandfather was Jewish but he’s Roman Catholic as is everyone else in his family. Assume makes an ASS of you and ME.

Yes, this is my understanding, too: a class thing; similarly in the U.S. It was a sign of urbanization: that you were not born at home on a farm, but, had the means to use a modern hospital. Fortunately, Princess Diana went against the Royals and refused to have her children mutilated. In the States, the majority are now not mutilated as science slowly prevails over religious and social fundamentalisms.

Not the Muslims I know. All the ones I know, whether Egyptians, Iranians etc. are done at birth. Perhaps this is something common culturally in your particular circle but remember Muslims are from diverse ethnic backgrounds and not monolithic.
