The people defending Will really are demonstrating the divide between those of us who possess class and civility and those of us who don't. It seriously does not matter if he was "standing up for his wife". It was a joke (however poor in taste it might have been). That occurred at the Oscars of all places. For Will to respond that way in that forum was wholly inappropriate and there are no excuses. Realistically speaking, he should be banned from the Oscars for behaving like that.

If I had to say one way or the other I suspect the slap was made up. I watched a few scenes and Chris Rock did not even drop the papers he was holding made no attempt to defend himself, grab his jaw or anything else one would consider a normal response after getting slapped on live TV. If it was taped I would think it would have been edited out. Sad…
