Considering Circumcision - Advice?

Dude wtf are u talking about? It 100% cures phimosis! I am living proof! If anything it's probably the ONLY cure for certain cases! I tried stretching exercises in the shower etc for YEARS before going ahead with it!
A cure would mean the intervention allowed you to retract your foreskin without pain or other discomfort. Removing the foreskin entirely doesn't allow you to retract. You simply have no foreskin. That's what I mean. You effectively have a different penis. For you, maybe it doesn't matter. But for those who don't know what they're getting into with a circumcision, it's a useful concept.

A cure means you can expose your head while hard (for me) and sex is not painful anymore, nor awkward! That's like saying surgery to remove part of your bowel if you have bowel cancer does not ''cure'' it cuz you effectively have a ''different'' bowel now! That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard!

I think you understand what I mean. It's not that difficult.

I understand both of your perspectives.

From one point of view, if your end goal is to have a retractable foreskin, then circumcision is not a cure - as it removes the foreskin entirely.

From another point of view, if your end goal is simply to be rid of the discomfort from a foreskin you can't retract, then circumcision is a cure, as you no longer have this discomfort.

Thank you. I feel understood. Finally.

Circumcision does not cure phimosis. Rather it's more like trading in the penis you have for a very different one. There are cures as you've apparently tried (steroidal creams and stretching devices). I don't really think of phimosis as a condition that requires a cure though. If the occasional irritation you experience clears up fairly quickly as you indicate, I wouldn't consider it much of problem that needs an intervention. And the recovery wouldn't be my main concern. You'll get over that eventually. The fact that it can't be undone is the bigger worry if you find, as many do, that your new penis doesn't work like the old one and you start to wish you had it back.

I've read a lot of posts here from guys who *chose* circumcision as adults and do not recall a single one complaining/wishing he hadn't done so.

The thing with stretching, so I've heard, is that you have to go slow and be consistent. If you try and stretch too fast, then yes you run the risk of irritating the skin. then you stop to let it heel and the skin tightens again, so you don't see the results. and around you go again in a cycle. slow and steady wins the race.

This site is not really for people seeking support for dealing with a decision they regret. It tends to have a pro circ bias after all or at least a reluctance to speak critically on the subject.

Those who regret tend to seek supportive environments elsewhere to share their experience. Reddit has several supportive subreddits on the issue with 10s of thousands of members.

As the title suggests, I'm on the fence about getting circumcised, and wondered if you guys here had any advice on this topic.

Some context:
  • I'm 25 years old.
  • I've always had a somewhat tight foreskin; I can retract fully when soft, but when hard, it is more difficult.
  • I cannot pull my foreskin back behind my head, as the skin tends to bunch up in a big band at the ridge.
  • These problems have gotten worse in recent years, with recurring irritation around the end of my foreskin.
  • These bouts usually resolve themselves in time.
  • Ironically, this sometimes starts after I've tried stretching.
I've been given a topical steroid cream by my GP to start stretching, but a mixture of struggling to establish the habit and occasional irritation mean I haven't seen much progress.

I'm not set on circumcision by any means, but I'm a bit concerned that stretching won't resolve my issue:
  • If my foreskin bunches up around my head when I peel it back, will any amount of stretching really fix this?
  • I've heard stories of guys who could originally retract their foreskin easily, but recurring irritation and micro-tears cause them to develop phimosis later in life.
As for circumcision itself, I guess the main thing that's putting me off is the recovery. The operation itself I've heard is pretty routine as things go, but I don't like the idea of rushing to a busy, understaffed hospital in the weeks after the operation if something goes wrong when I'm healing. Also, I wouldn't know what style to pick, and there seems to be a wide range of results for guys.

I can share pics privately if I trust ya.

So that's it. Hope this post isn't too much of a ramble, and intrigued to see what you guys think.

Obviously, I'll seek proper medical advice when the time is right, but I hoped some guys here might be able to give me their two cents.

Thanks!
Got it done for the same reasons 10 years ago.
I wouldn't read too much stuff online to be honest. Doctors usually have a standard style. They take the foreskin off and leave around 5 mm of the inner skin for the sutures. Some leave the frenulum tissue or sew it together with the rest of the skin..
Talked to a few doctors and got the impression that Muslim doctors know best what to do.
After 10 years I can say that I there is not a big difference.
I asked the doc to leave the circ on the looser side so I could still masturbate. He was very nice and left around 5 mm more inner skin and the frenulum tissue, but to be honest, it doesn't make a difference and takes way longer to heal. So my advice would be to go for the no nonsense circ that heals the quickest.

Thanks for your detailed response!
How come a looser cut takes longer to heal?

In general, with adults, it takes like 8 weeks to fully heal and feel normal (stitches out around 10-12 days). The scar adjusts the following years.

More potential swelling if there is more remaining inner skin and the scar ring is a bit larger if it's not directly behind the glans so there is more tissue that needs to grow together.

I would searching the internet for stretching the foreskin there's lots of information out there.

This from Safe Streaching Exercises:

Phimosis is a condition of the penis which may occur in some adults and children who have not undergone circumcision. If you suffer from phimosis, it means your foreskin can’t be pulled back or retracted from around the tip of the penis. Phimosis can occur naturally or due to scarring. There is a need for treatment of this condition as it may cause other health issues and symptoms. Phimosis can become a severe concern if it leaves an opening the size of a pinhole.

There are two types of phimosis – in childhood, a male may have the physiologic type which usually resolves with age. The pathologic type develops much later and is associated with a condition called balanitis xerotica obliterans (BXO). This type of phimosis may also develop due to poor hygiene, skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, etc or scar tissue, injuries and infections.

Safe Stretching Exercises You Can Try If Suffering From Phimosis.

Good luck. I wish I still had mine as it was cut off as a baby.

Ah I see, just how much longer would you say?
I'd say around 4 weeks longer. In my case, the swelling took some while and the fren area was still bleeding.

I know someone who got a low and tight circ and he said it was ready to use after 3 weeks.

In general, though, an adult circumcision will never be too tight. Since the doc leaves the shaft skin intact, you'll have a similar amount of movement.

I can relate to you!
I had my circumcision like 8 years ago. My foreskin was too tight too.
Had a Muslim doctor as well. He was really good! And he was explained to me in detail what would happen and how the result would be. :)
Healing wasn‘t that difficult. Can‘t remember how long it actually took, but several weeks sounds reasonable.
@Gummshoo Don‘t stress yourself! I‘d suggest just go to a doctor and talk to him and ask him every question you have! If you decide to get it done, I‘d suggest to only wear tight underwear at the beginning as otherwise your dick gets too much friction.

I had it done 11 years ago for a thick tight frenulum that made erections uncomfortable. My advice from personal experience and years of research before I took the plunge….

Circumcision is the only way to properly cure any of these issues
Go private - I went to Luton which was excellent
Research the styles and pick the one that you want and ask for that style
I went for a high cut which leaves the sensitive inner foreskin intact.
Pay extra to have the skin glue. It reduces healing time by half and gives a far neater result
Don’t worry about the op.Apart from the first injection going in (which is no worse than the dentist) you won’t feel a thing.

please do drop me a line if you have any questions.

You want to get a deck of ugly women poker cards or something gross to look at to avoid an erection while recovering. I had the same problem and circumcision fix it, and much happier for it. I was in pain during intercourse, because the skin would pull back too hard. getting used to the raw skin rubbing on the underwear took awhile. Nite time woody did cause me to bleed in the middle of the nite, so watch for that. I had to pinch it like a nose bleed to stop it on its own. I don't know if they have something like a anti-viagra, so that's why I got a deck of card of ugly women. I bet they would be hard to find these days, but get something that gross you out. Anything that will make your body cringe will shrink your penis. A bleeding penis is worse than a bloody nose.

I had a circumcision about 6 months ago for the same reasons. I had problems after (infection) but now, VERY happy. I had an half circumcision (i speak french don t know how to say it sorry) and I don't have any issues, no pain and I don't have less sensibility. I have more and better erections.
