It's cool. Your questions make sense once you explained them. Keep in mind security is tight in the women's sections because the ladies don't like answering sincere sounding questions in order to provide wank material. It happens so much.

It would probably depend on the doctor and what their training was and who trained them. I see a lot more rectal stuff happening in my old, old school gynecological surgery books from the 1940s.

It's not unusual while a woman is being repaired after birth to have the doctor insert a finger anally to see if she tore through the vaginal fascia into the rectum. They also might do this while stitching to gain access to areas they might not be able to see otherwise.

While it's not common that it happens on the gynecology table, it happens and it's not considered unusual to those in the gynecological field.
Well, couldn't thank you more for such a detailed and technical reply, I had no idea about that stuff. Are you a doutor yourself?

Same here. Well, isn't what forums are all about? I'm sorry if there were too many odd questions, but that are curiosities I couldn't resolve asking a woman in person, it would be 100x weirder. So I came here.

Ah. Makes sense. Thanks for the clarification.. and thanks for the unique question. We get a lot of repeats here.. this was a first for this one

My gyno is the same person as my general practitioner. The way my insurance works, I always have to see the general practitioner, called my primary care manager, before I can see a specialist of any kind, with the exception being a gynecologist or a dentist. So... Yes. I would be seeing her before a proctologist anyway.

Understood, but wouldn't that be wrong if your gyno took the responsibility since it's not his/her field of expertise?

Not in my case. My gynecologist is also my general practitioner. I have to see my general practitioner about such matters first.

They wear gloves. What is the purpose of this line of questioning? Gyno fetish? Latex fetish? Medical fantasy? Medical abuse fantasy? Did a friend of yours suspect she was abused?
No. Just curiosity out of something I couldn't find satisfatory answers anywhere, so nothing better than personal details from women themselves.

Plus a good breast exam involves checking near and sometimes into the arm pit to check lymph glands. I've heard stories about people not even washing up or putting on deodorant for exams. I'd wear gloves everytime.
You'd be right to wear them!

Okay. But from what did that curiosity originate? These are not general questions. Quite specific. This is not a line of questioning that you just wake up with one Wednesday morning.

Nipples can have discharge. The doctor doesn't want to get that on their hands if they can avoid it.
When I was in EMT training, I was told a story about a patient who had nitro on his skin. Tech failed to don gloves for the assessment, touched it, and was out cold from the sudden drop in blood pressure. Always wear gloves for all parts of an examination, was the takeaway.

I studied for years before I became an adult my dad's medical books, particularly those on gynecogical surgeries. When I graduated I was heading into pre-med when my life took a different turn. So not only did I study a lot on female anatomy, I had a series of gynecological issues myself, so I know what it's like as a patient with too much knowledge.

I also did volunteer work in the obstetrics ward in the hospital. I've held the leg up of a woman in active labor giving birth many times.

In other words, I know a lot about vaginas and other stuff near the lady bits.

You're correct, my curiosity started because, without any confirmed knowledge about went on inside a gyno's office and based only on common sense, I thought some procedures were quite unnecessary and embarassing to the women, because it requires an intimacy that doesn't exist between a gyno and his/her patient.

I'm not saying that a woman should not visit her gyno; what I thought is that some procedures became obsolete considering how much technology we have now. For example, is it really necessary to do the pelvic exam since we have high rated ultrassound machines that are able to prevent any issue or disease? I believe that it's quite embarassing to allow a complete stranger to insert his/her fingers inside the vagina, please correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm not a woman to be absolutely sure.

Before you gave me the answers about the anal exam, I thought it was done everytime by the gyno and, if that was the case, I'd considered it outrageous to allow a gyno to examine the rectum, that's why I came here to get everything straight and clear and stop believing in common sense.

That's pretty interesting, I've also considering med career but changed my mind, but it's something I admire the most.

The dedication required to become a female surgeon was more than I was willing to do out of high school. It's a good 12 years of intense studying and practice to be a surgeon. I wanted a family, which is damn near impossible as a woman in the surgical field. I know a lot of female surgeons that were never able to have children because of what was required to be a doctor, let alone a surgeon.

I'm with you, having a family is top priority now that I've found the woman of my life (actual girlfriend, future wife), so nothing will stop me of building a family with her, not even my professional career. That's why I consider earning my money out of something I can do at home, using the internet, so I'll be able to stay near my family everytime.

Makes sense. Thank you. What made you think a rectal exam was common?

An ultrasound is for questions that cannot be answered by simple palpation or viewing with the eye. The gynecologist does not perform it herself, rather the ultrasound tech does. There is the kind that goes over the abdomen, and the kind that goes through the vagina.

Actually when I googled about this matter, I read some topics where women told about rectam exame being performed by their gynos, these results were in Portuguese (pages of my country, Brazil), that's why I thought it was common, it was like 3 out of 4 girls telling that they've already had rectal touch during their gynos appointments. Maybe I got unlucky to find untrustful results or gynos behavior in Brazil are different than other countries.

Talking about the ultrassound, I understood what you said, but don't you think the pelvic exam became "unnecessary", considering the ultrassound is capable of covering even a larger area and provide a clearer result?
