they're environmentalists for as long as it's convenient to them. they're not gonna abandon modern world comforts for the sake of saving the earth.
like, yeah of fucking course a train isn't as fast as a plane. no, it doesn't really need to be improved and do better. trains are really old technology that was created to transport several people and things for long distances faster and more efficiently than the available transportation at the time could.
for a train to be more efficient and as convenient as a plane it'd have to do environmental damage equal to a plane. unless someone creates a whole underground system that works throughout all of europe, or creates some futuristic sky train that goes through some type of transportation tube à la futurama, there's not much that can be done to improve trains for them to be more convenient than planes.
there's also always the option to not go to a foreign country on holiday

Yes! And one of them is part of an eco-terrorist group that shut down major parts of London for several weeks a couple years ago. Then he made a big deal about saying he was going to take a train home from vacation— in Ibiza!— because flying was bad for the environment. But it turned out the train was too slow for him so he got off somewhere in mainland Europe and flew back to London. Then he made another preachy video about how the trains should be more convenient so he wouldn’t have to fly. After that I unsubscribed from his Instagram— for my mental health.

this sounds a lot like when ppl say you can't be a socialist if you have an iphone tbh. i'm not really that arsed if they fly every now and then. i actually like that Jack has moved towards a more corporate critical approach than quibbling over the actions of the individual.

the issue isn't that someone calls themselves an environmentalist and then use things like planes. the issue is not doing what you preach. if he goes around calling planes bad and saying people shouldn't use them and use more environment friendly options but then is flying planes because "trains need to be better" that's just full on hypocrisy. it'd be like someone being an advocate against animal abuse but then visit seaworld

maybe i don't follow them closely enough but i genuinely don't find them to be preachy. they do more for the cause than me so i can allow them a lil hypocrisy from time to time. they seem pretty open to criticism too. they are super privileged but i think they're broadly good lads.
