It's good they're protesting, but just getting this off my chest. I like Froy, he's a good person, etc. But they're still taking advantage of the system that makes the problem. They even both work for Disney now, one of the biggest exploiters of minorities and the poor. They go home to their big house after it's over. .

You forgot to mention that Froy is half mexican, was a target of bullying because of that having people making rumors about his father as if he was a drug dealer because it fits the stereotype many people have of mexicans living in the USA. Sure he’s white passing, but he knows what it’s like to be criticized and judged for your heritage, although probably not at the same degree as black people do.

Richard is a white european man, sure he’s privileged and all, but at least he’s using his privilege to help a cause he believes in, dedicating time, money and his social media presence to send a positive message to his followers.

Why should they have to? Whether or not we've sussed it out or whether it's not subtle etc etc, it's still their business and not ours. Whether or not they're dating it's up to their discretion whether they want the world to know officially. It's the exact same for straight celebrities - they don't owe it to us to tell us who they are/aren't dating

If they DIDN'T go to the protests then they're siding with the oppressors. Yes, they're showing it through selfies but that's the easiest way to show that they themselves actually went and didn't just steal the images from Google or whatever. They're celebs and they're either white or white passing. Yes, they get privileges with that, but it's not like they can help their own fucking ethnicity. This isn't the place to go into it, after all, but what I meant wasn't about them being white/white-passing. More to do with their part in the system (corporate entertainment industry) that both creates and ignores problems like systemic racism. They benefit from the system and as the society becomes more divided along the lines of rich and poor, they aren't the poor.

It's hard to say in a few words, but I just couldn't help thinking: a lot of celebs have their hearts in the right place, like this situation. But they're still taking a lot of money that was made through oppression, even while they protest the conditions that result from oppression. I think they're probably naive about it.

What are you saying then? You didn’t just make a throw away comment you basically called them out implying that they are virtue signalling. It’s basically damned if they do and damned if they don’t by your standard. They are taking their privileged platform and using it to broadcast support, and pushing the issue out there, and that’s a good thing. All support for the movement against racism and the discrimination of people of colour is a good thing. It’s counterproductive to start pointing out the privilege of allies. Really don’t see why their lifestyles are even relevant at this point. Not all supporters are going to be poor and white supporters are going to be privileged, that’s a fact and personally all allies should be welcomed without question.
