I use my thumb from my left hand to push my penis into parallel position and hold it there and then i put a wooden ruler directly on top with the measuring marks and numbers at the center of my penis and i start the 0 mark at the crease. Some times my crease ( base ) is more visible than other times for reasons i don't know. but I can always find my crease by angling my dick upwards towards the ceiling it will form a crease at the base and then i just put 1 finger on the crease to remember where the crease is and then push my dick back down to parallel and put the ruler directly on the crease.

In clinical studies they use soft tapes to measure dicks. The ruler argument is invalid, in peer-viewed measuring papers a ruler is never mentioned, only tapes. If users here say using a tape is wrong then you would have to throw out all the measurements in medical literature.
